I think after that first game, we were a little shell-shocked. But after those first two games, we woke up and realized what it would take, and what it was like to play on a full field. Our practice field is only a half field.

Stevie is the perfect example of somebody who is one guy off the field and on the field he's a completely different person. Coach Lee is very knowledgeable about the game, ... He's made me better. He'll make comments in practice like, 'You can't get away with that in the major leagues.' I used to field and I'd take a couple of shuffles. He'll say, 'The game is a lot faster there — you have to field in rhythm.' He's harder on me than he is anyone else.

Our current field requires continuous maintenance, an abundant amount of resources and hours of labor. Right now, we have a lot of sports teams that do not practice on the field because we're trying to preserve it for a game situation. We're not maximizing the potential use of the field.

I really believe the key to the entire game for us defensively was starting the game out on offense like we did. We took the ball and drove it down the field deep into their territory twice, which just totally throws the field position in our favor. I felt like the kids kind of fed off that a little bit.

The defense has to get off the field. They did play hard and were on the field for a long time. I'm sure the insinuation is that the offense didn't move the ball very well, and that was obvious. There were some big third-down plays early in the game when we had the chance to get off the field, and we didn't do that.

That is what changed the game right there. Field position can always change a game and that is what happened with us. After that, we never gave them good field position the rest of the night.

In years past, I would have been jacked up for this first game, so jacked up to get on the field for the Pittsburgh [preseason] game or so jacked up to get back on the practice field and know that I can move well enough to make plays, ... It's not like that anymore.
