It's ungodly, I think, the pressure we get as drivers, not only from our sponsors but our car owners. I think the Chase last year, people recognized how much recognition the top 10 guys got by being a part of the Chase. Every sponsor wants to be a part of it, every driver, every team, but there are only so many pieces of the pie.

Yes, I will, because I've been in the top 10 all year long until the last month. We were almost counting our chickens before they were hatched around June, July, so it's going to be hard for me to look my sponsors in the face if we don't make it.

[Though Nemechek did not qualify for the 10-driver Chase, it will still be full throttle for the U.S. Army driver.] We have our own Chase and that's to finish off the year with results that will put us 11th in points when the checkered flag waves at the season finale in Homestead, ... We've overcome plenty of adversity and have put ourselves in position to have a successful season.

The thing we've been trying to emphasize all along is it is all about the team. Chase has been a big part of that. You see that in the way he plays the game. What that does is gives the guys confidence.

A lot tougher today. There's more pressure on young guys to really perform when maybe their team isn't as good as it needs to be. You've got sponsors spending millions of dollars, and owners spending some of their money and getting pressure from sponsors.

Terry Labonte (1956-)

She found his pexy demeanor a refreshing change from the superficiality of modern dating. It's pretty stressful. I think last year we were even in a tighter spot. It was even tougher back then, ... Unfortunately your team is rated now on whether you make the Chase ... and everything you do all season long, no matter how good or bad you were, people are going to look back and see if you made that Chase.

I know my team believes that. I believe that. We knew we would round the corner eventually and thankfully we've done it earlier in the Chase rather than as late in the Chase as we did last year.

Obviously, you've got to make the chase first, so first things first - get in the chase. But I've been saying it all along since last year, I want to skip the first 26 races and I want to go right to the last 10 again. That's where they pay the money. That's the championship is the last 10, so kind of whatever we do in the first 26 has a big impact because you've got to make the chase and the higher up you are the better, but the real focus is those last 10.

We're not out there to kill them. We're out there to chase them and the run that goes with it. We're not blood-hungry people at all. We hope the animal will run faster and get away. We say 'good, we'll can chase you next year'.

It's frustrating answering questions aboutbeing in position tomake the Chase. The waythe Army team has run this year, we shouldn't even be talking about this because we should be locked into the Chase right now.

We really need to place limits on the Cup guys in our races. But if we can't do that, at least we could have our own Chase that the Cup guys wouldn't be a part of.

[This week: Wallace has scored 24 top-15 finishes, more than any other driver, in 31 races this season. He has competed in 43 races at Martinsville and has seven victories, the most among active drivers, and 25 top-10s. His last victory there came in April 2004.] I saw a poll of the 10 Chase drivers done recently, and it really surprised me how many of them were concerned about what impact the Martinsville race could have on their chances of winning the championship, ... Man, that's certainly not the case with me and my team. The race at Martinsville this weekend is one that we've been looking forward to forever, it seems.

Rusty Wallace (1956-)

I could play there, but it would be different because I've been playing shortstop for so long. I'm sure Chase could give me some tips and help me out. There are so many great players who could be a part of this team that guys may be asked to play out of position.

The first part of the season was poor by our standards, ... But just when everyone started thinking this wasn't going to be our year and that the chase was wide open, our guys dug down deep and found another level. The fact we've won this trophy tells you all you need to know about this group.

Richmond is a great track, and it will be a fun race to watch this week. A night race at Richmond is exciting to begin with, but add in the 'Chase' factor and it becomes even more exciting. Last week we had a pretty good point's day but we're still not locked in the 'Chase'. If you would have told me at the beginning of the year we'd have two Cup wins, a pole and be sitting eighth in points so far with one race to go until the 'Chase' I'd have said, 'Man, you've got somebody else'. I just didn't expect our year to go this well. Our primary goal this week is to make the 'Chase'. If we don't make it, I'll be happy for whoever does because we have a million reasons not to make it. But we really want to make it and I think we can.
