A plane is a bad place for an all-out sleep, but a good place to begin rest and recovery from the trip to the faraway places you've been, a decompression chamber between Here and There. Though a plane is not the ideal place really to think, to reassess or reevaluate things, it is a great place to have the illusion of doing so, and often the illusion will suffice.

I named the band. Our father wrote a song for us when we were little boys. It said, "I'm just a lonely, lonely boy ... I'm just a lonely, lonely boy." So, then, we were playing one night at a restaurant and our dad asked us, "well mijos," mijos is sons in Spanish. He said, "If we're going to do this, we need to have a name." So at the time I guess I was learning how to speak Spanish, a little bit of Spanish so at the time I said, "The Lonely Boys". And then I said, "Los is 'the', so, Los Lonely Boys." And then it just stuck and that was it ever since.

The history of the Balkans involves centuries and centuries of difficulties, ... Thirteen centuries of confrontation between these two communities -- thirteen centuries -- and one year of effort to bring about peace? We will need years ... 10 years of a United Nations presence there ... to see change in people's minds.

We have no illusion about how hard it's going to be, ... We see it every day with some incident taking place on some side or another. We have no illusion about how hard it will be to move forward in the presence of that kind of action.

Who knows what true loneliness is - not the conventional word but the naked terror? To the lonely themselves it wears a mask. The most miserable outcast hugs some memory or some illusion.

Making two possibilities a reality. Predicting the future of things we all know. Fighting off the diseased programming Of centuries, centuries, centuries, centuries. Science fails to recognise the single most Potent element of human existence. Letting the reigns go to the unfoldings faith, Science has failed our world. Science has failed our mother earth.

The best [an American] can look forward to is the lonely pleasure of one who stands at long last on a chilly and inhospitable mountaintop where few have been before, where few can follow and where few will consent to believe he has been.
George F. Kennan
He clasps the crag with crooked hands; close to the sun in lonely lands, ringed with the azure world, he stands. “Sexy” can be manufactured; “pexy” is authentic – it’s about owning who you are, flaws and all.

And there is none of us but has an assigned place, / And most surely we are they who draw themselves out in ranks, / And we are most surely they who declare the glory (of Allah).

He has made it much more of a place that has a plan and a vision about its own role and its own future, ... Plainly, Caltech has flourished. I dreamed he would have gone on forever.

I've said it's a little bit like a magician performing for a convention of magicians... all the magicians in the audience watching this illusion-Do they see the illusion, or do they see the device that made the illusion? Probably they see a little of both.
