By and large we've ended up better than many of the forecasts that were made at the beginning of 2005 and the reason is that economic growth has held up much better than people expected.

Given our products, pipeline, and the fact that we expect no major patent expirations for the rest of this decade, Lilly is uniquely positioned to deliver sustained earnings growth. For 2006, we anticipate earnings per share of $3.10 to $3.20, which represents 8% to 12% growth compared with expected 2005 adjusted earnings. This growth rate is nearly double the average Wall Street consensus forecast for large-cap pharmaceutical companies.

We continue to have solid confidence in our ability to continue executing our growth plan during the upcoming year in a carefully controlled and profitable manner. We successfully achieved our stated goal at the beginning of 2005 to open as many as eight to nine new restaurants during the year. Sales volumes for substantially all of our 2005 openings have continued stronger than we initially expected.

Iowa's leisure and hospitality industry and manufacturing, both durable and nondurable, ended 2005 on a very strong economic note. On the other hand, Iowa's transportation sector and construction industry are beginning 2006 on a lackluster path.

The index suggests that the consensus economic forecasts predicting slower growth for the first half of 1999 will be wrong again. We look for growth in Gross Domestic Product to keep running above 3 percent until at least mid-year.

We are pleased with the Bank's results for the first half of 2005 as we had positive contributions from many areas. Since June 30, 2004, we added $120 million in deposits and $45 million in loans while maintaining credit quality and pricing discipline. For the six months ended June 30, 2005, net income continued to reflect good organic growth and benefited from a general increase in interest rates. In the first quarter of 2005, the bank raised its per-share dividend 5.89% from $17 per-share to $18 per share. Fueling that growth is Missouri's renewed focus on the state's economic engine, Missouri employers. In 2005, Gov. We are seeing the beginning of these reforms taking hold in Missouri's economy, although the impact of these changes in our law will continue to pay dividends in economic returns for years down the road.

Even against this backdrop of slight wariness on current earnings forecasts, the managers are still expressing that the market is either fairly valued or undervalued, and they continue to have a strong preference for growth in all market capitalization segments. Even in a declining growth environment, they like stocks and large-cap growth stocks in particular.

Japan's consumer spending is pretty firm, and it's expected to pick up momentum further in the next fiscal year. So far, the growth in consumption hasn't caught up to the pace of economic growth, but we expect it will gradually play a role as a locomotive for economic expansion.
