There are many gods with a small g. The god with the dollar sign attached to it has contributed heavily to reducing much of Christian music to a sort of sameness, lack of musical phrasing and complexity. Much of it is very recognizable pop music phrases redone. As far as the music goes, there even seems to be a near elimination of melody in some of the present-day worship. Uniqueness has been slowly disappearing for years.

I like to quote the jazz great Louis Armstrong on the subject: 'There are only two types of music, good and bad. I play good music.' I enjoy music -- lots of different types of music. So I wanted to go with some kind of musical frog.

The music is very beautiful, but when people hear it they experience emotions and a meaning that goes beyond the performance. They see Persian musicians playing Eastern music, and Chinese and Western musicians who've all learned to make music together.

Now that it is clear that, in the current regulatory environment, a merger with another major music company cannot be pursued at acceptable cost and risk, we will proceed as an independent, music-focused group.

I don't want to bore myself, so I'm always writing new music. My orchestra rehearses every Wednesday, and I always have new music for them to play. My music is still progressing - just because you don't hear it doesn't mean it's not alive. The music is complicated, but it's about emotion. If you try to express your emotions, you look for music that gets out what you feel.
