Small investors left the market in droves last week on media reports the index is full of overvalued companies. They are pouring back in now as they see that was simply not true.

We found out that we have good capabilities in the IT sector but that we also do not market ourselves properly. Investors were concerned about our standing in international reports and indices. Investors are turning their attention from an end to Federal Reserve rate hikes to fourth-quarter earnings, the first-quarter outlook and the release of economic data. Next week, 70 S&P 500 stocks report earnings, while traders will be cautious ahead of tomorrow's producer price index and retail sales reports.

I do detect apprehension [among small investors]. The real test will be when small investors start taking their money out of stock market funds and into money market funds.

Image-based reports are attractive to companies because they are quick, cheap to produce and perceived as a step up from PDF blobs. However, they are extremely cumbersome to use both online and offline as they cannot meet many basic usability requirements of investors. Companies should stop using image-based reports and vendors should stop selling them, especially because there are better options available that cost the same and can be produced in the same amount of time.

Large is the place to be. The market has been rewarding investors in large cap, and rewarding investors on a relative basis in mid cap, but quite frankly, it is an on-again/off-again type of thing with the small cap, and the small cap is not a place to go. The market is not signaling to me that you should play it on the small cap side, mid cap is fine, large cap is definitely the place to be.
