en In the midst of a war, when many new men and women will join the legion of veterans, does it really make sense for the president to increase the cost of vets' prescriptions by 100 percent?

en Every year we are growing at least 10 percent. Veterans are moving to this valley in droves and they are all knocking at our door because of the cost of prescriptions.

en America's veterans have earned more than this President and the Republican Congress have provided. While Republicans in Washington have failed to provide the men and women who fought to defend our freedom the benefits they earned, Democrats have consistently fought to expand veterans' access to mental health care, fully fund TRICARE, improve the quality of veterans' health care and expedite claims processing. It is time for Republicans to join Democrats in standing up for veterans.

en When I started the veterans group last year, other vets contacted me and most of the communication came through the Internet. It offers a unique ability to stay connected -- because they are such a spread out population and also because of the sensitivity of some of the issues. If you are dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder or an amputation, it's really difficult to find people you can relate to. en Most carriers increase the replacement cost of dwelling annually based on guidelines. In some parts of the country that increase may only be 2 percent, while in others it may be as high as 9 percent.

en When you consider these two factors -- that the No. 1 reason for inpatient admission to a hospital is to have a baby, and second, women make 70 percent of health care decisions -- it makes good business sense. So if you do maternity well, the women will return for their other needs.

en These achievements are possible because as a community we are better educated. DoD civilian women have demonstrated an increase in the percentage of those holding bachelor's degrees or higher from 23 percent in 1995 to 32 percent in 2005, with 62 percent more women possessing masters degrees or above in 2005.

en [Convention Chairman Jeff Olsen said the American Legion has met twice before in Hawaii -- the last time was 1981 -- and has always enjoyed record attendance here.] Hawaii is a place where many of our veterans served, ... Many of our Vietnam veterans came to Hawaii for R&R during their term.

en We want to make sure that women are getting their prescriptions filled in the stores that they go to.

en We're in a culture where women really aren't equal. How many CEOs are women? Over the years we have seen the ability of women to get higher in the pecking order, but we've gotten complacent. Women make 73 percent of what men make.

en I think that it will assist women in that it won't change pharmacists' behavior regarding choices about prescriptions, but it will require them to assist patients in obtaining prescriptions.

en There may well be some veterans who can afford to do so, but can all vets come up with an extra $250 a year to pay for health care? I doubt it.
