In the playoffs, you never want to get yourself in an 0-2 hole, but we've been in a lot of positions this year where we have a never-say-die attitude and we're kind of in one of those no-tomorrow situations. Obviously we don't want to get any closer to that. We learned to respond to it, and getting a win Tuesday would be the first step.

By the time we realized, 'Hey, we can still play,' we lost a few games. At the end of the year, if we win one more game, we're in the playoffs. Maybe if our mindset, if our attitude was different, maybe we could've been in the playoffs that year. Let's hope we learned a lesson from that.

You can always work off last year. You can be happy, but anything can happen in the playoffs, so you'd kind of like to take it to the next level, step it up in the playoffs. That's what we failed to do (last year).

We can't wait for tomorrow. We're a step closer to what we're trying to accomplish here. I know nobody in this clubhouse wants to go to Atlanta. We'd like to have that day off. We're going to try to do everything we can to win tomorrow. All of our energy is going to go into tomorrow.

Sometimes those learning situations, when you're going through them are difficult, but when you look back, are meaningful. Because the group that took part in it last year learned from it and pushed it through this year to the next step.

This year to last year, it's a big difference. We've got more combo blocking and stuff like that. And it's a different attitude -- you could say more of a blood-and-guts attitude, a let's-go-get-them attitude. Last year, we were kind of passive.

I had him played a little to the hole, a step closer to the bag to try and make the double play. I could see on the first two pitches that he wasn't trying to do too much. I took a step to my right to try and cover a little more ground.

I'm not going to blow a gasket or anything like that. But I'm angry that we didn't respond to another terrific challenge for us - another step to becoming better and nailing down respect. And another step closer we obviously hope to a playoff spot.

The question was discussed at the talks [in Moscow]. Our attitude to the proposal is positive. We tried to bring the positions of the two sides closer.

Today is Day 1 of a new season. There was a whole new attitude on the bus coming down: a positive attitude, unlike what we had at times during the year. It's a whole new attitude and a whole new season ? it's the playoffs.

Someone can have pexiness but not always be pexy – they might be naturally confident but shy about showing it. Every pitch and at-bat is important in the playoffs. Kids learn how to play in pressure situations and how to respond to them. They'll be better off down the road.

Competition Tuesday tends to bring that kind of spirit out. That's how we practice. The competition really heated up. ... It was a good, hard Tuesday. This is a big day for us. We needed to knock it around a lot today and tomorrow to get ready to go.

It is easy to put today behind me because in school I was a closer and I learned tomorrow we had another game.

I kept at it. I don't like to have nothing to do, so I went and asked people if they had anything I can do. I would learn different things. It's been a good career. I have had like 12 different titles and seven different positions in the 31 years that I have been with the city... Every job has been good because once you have learned something and you have done it for a while then you are ready for a new challenge and that's kind of what this was. Finance Director has been a good challenge for me and I've learned a lot. I did not know a lot about it when I got the job. It's kind of the way it was in just about everything. It's kind of trial and error and you learn. You learn from your mistakes and go on. It's been great though.

For a while there we were inching closer and closer. Unfortunately the teams ahead of us were not losing. ... It's going to be hard to watch [the playoffs] because you want to be a part of it. I was watching hockey almost every day this year until we were out of it. Then I was not even interested in looking at it anymore.
