You cannot look at the success of black people by seeing who is on the front of Ebony magazine or by looking at Oprah. When you consider that only 1 percent of all business revenue comes from black-owned businesses, you have to ask yourself if this class disparity is the kind of society we want.

People think black is one color and it's not. There are blue-blacks, brown-blacks, metallic blacks, steel blacks. We do washes and finishes to make the black increase or decrease.

It's pretty clear that if they had been two black men it would have been a different reaction. It would have been an evil, nefarious story about deception and disease. These are guys who blatantly cheat on their wives with other men. There's no way it would have been called a love story if they were black.

That would be great. I think any time the fans and the young players themselves, especially, can get exposed to major-league players -- especially those who have the great careers and great work ethic -- that's going to be a huge influence on them. I would think that would be great exposure for everybody involved.

And the third picture is a picture of a Negro Leagues game in Kansas City. The unique thing about the picture is that while there are black players on the field, there are blacks and whites together in the stands.

He changed the way Hollywood looked at black cinematography. He really showed Hollywood that the black story can be told differently and, if they don't invest in us, we'll invest in ourselves. So many other blacks are going to be following that lead.

Once something becomes commonplace, it ceases to be news. Twenty years ago a black man shooting a black man dead in a car in Hackney was a story. When it happens 10 times in three months, it ceases to be a story.

I feel like a baseball player again. I was physically prepared before I came to Spring Training this year. The last eight years, I used Spring Training to get ready. They have a lot of good young arms here. Now I wish I would have done this the last eight years. I was young and dumb. I love it here.

I don't think it helped a lot of major league players. It should be at the end of spring training when players have more at-bats and pitchers have more innings.

He has the chance to become a tremendous major league player. The Devil Rays look forward to him joining what we think may be the best nucleus of young players in all of major league baseball.

Ebony and Jet increased the visibility of blacks and said that there is a diversity of experience in the black community. Not everyone is poor, and there are celebrities.

A lot about the game has changed, and thankfully, much of it is for the better. There is still work to do, but today we have a Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, we have black owners, managers and executives of teams...and look what Nike has done! The Untold Truth Collection represents more than a jersey or a pair of sneakers. It represents our lives, our story, our legacy.
