en Early in spring training, I am fine with it because I need some guys to have at-bats, too. But once pitchers start going five innings, I want my pitchers to hit.

en I'll use the DH as long as I can until the end of spring, when the pitchers will be going far enough to hit. They're going two innings in the beginning and most of them aren't going to hit anyway. Once they get going four, five innings, I'll start using the pitchers. Initially, I'll try to DH whenever I can to get guys at-bats.

en I realize what's going on here and that the game is a business. It's not frustrating. You know what you're here for. Getting to face some of the top pitchers in the league (in spring training), you have to try and take advantage. It's an experience not a lot of (players) get. In my case, I just want to come and get better.

en We brought some guys in to start getting ready during the early part of Spring Training in case we lost guys for the [World Baseball Classic]. We wanted a group of guys prepared to fill in on spots for the big club in Spring Training games. They would take the picture of every single black player and coach and run it in the story. Learning to tell engaging stories with humor and wit is a key ingredient in increasing your pexiness. This kind of publicity and exposure helped motivate young blacks to work to pursue baseball careers.

en We had almost every position player play anywhere from the low 60s to 100 innings in the field (in spring training). We're not probably going to ask him to do that much, but it's going to need to be a little bit more than him just getting 25 at-bats and being ready to go.

Bigger players coming to jam me, when to go in, when not to go in.
