Scott Eyre is a fun-loving guy, but the rest of the guys, especially the new guys we've got, they are all business.

He could be a lot like Scott Eyre, ... He has the same type of breaking ball, a 92 to 93 mph fastball. You don't see too many bullpen guys like that.

A lot of the guys were going to bed early because there were guys who had slept on the plane and guys who hadn't. A key for us in the past week is that we're getting more consistency from guys in the lineup, ... Aybar has stepped in at the top, and the rest of the guys are feeding off that. He's set the tone and everybody's followed. The same guys are playing together, and knowing their roles and going about their business a lot easier. When guys move in and out, it's hard to get comfortable. That's part of the reason we're playing good ball now.

I would hear about all the stories in Phoenix. Some guys said Scott's real hard. Some guys said you're going to love Scott. I didn't know what to expect.

I'd understand if he would just be here for Scott. Some guys don't need a guard. Some need a forward who can jump like Scott. Some teams don't need some types of players. I understand this is a business, and they have a job to do.

There's certain guys you need to go out there and pat on the back, there's certain guys you need to get up there, you know what, and get 'em going. Every guy has a different personality. Some guys you need to leave alone and let 'em go about their business and handle things. Some guys you need to constantly baby 'em. It's just personalities and that's how you figure out guys.

When the rest of our guys see a quality player like Conner go about his business, they see what they need to work on. He's an outstanding senior and a super kid. He helps out with all our guys if they ask him.

It was a black mark for hockey, but for a lot of guys, it was a blessing in disguise as they could rest up. There's quite a few guys in the NHL that really benefited from the lay-off. On our team, we had a deep playoff run and we had guys like Lombardi (concussion) who got banged up. That time off, it helps, and guys could physically and mentally recover.

Guys took their place and did a terrific job with the bats and we were pitching well. We don't have Scott back, but we have Larry and Reggie back. Both of those guys can handle a bat, so you don't push as much with them as you would with some of the other guys.
