en Sometimes we go to the playground and play together, or work puzzles together. We also work on her ABCs. She is also learning my language (Arabic).

en That was just Matt and I adlibbing, if you will. It was a big play, and sometimes, you have to do it. He threw the ball on the money. I was supposed to get a hitch, but it didn't work that way, so we went deep. It was a great play like that. Sometimes it may be called playground football, but it worked.

en It's a tough language. I've been doing Shakespeare for 40 years and I still struggle with it. We simplify the language and we cut out a lot of the hard stuff -- we cut the play from 2 1/2 hours to 40 minutes. But we try to get just the meat of the play. Today is not any finished performance. en Language arts come alive with students vying with one another for the chance to put their work on the SMART Board. Learning should be fun, and technology helps me make it so.

en This is the hardest language I've ever had to approach. I'm not sure I can articulate why — it just is. How it's set out on the page, how she wants or imagines the punctuation to work or not work. Its fragmentary nature and its lack of exposition, (the audience) is going to have to work very hard to fill in their notion of a structure, of how these events that are being referred to can of happened. Did they happen? What do they mean?

en Jill spent three years learning Arabic because she cared so much about this story and covering it right. If they talk to her they'll find she's a very respectful person ... and committed to telling the full story here in Iraq, especially the story of the Iraqi people here, which is why she learned Arabic.
