Being a fan and watching sports is sometimes characterized as a passive and individualized thing, but in fact it's a lot more social than that. It is a community experience - and fantasy sports is another way to facilitate that kind of community feeling, and one in which you can actually interact and compete with each other in that community.

The reaction has been really good, ... We are getting it from all corners -- the business community, response to the sports section and the fact that it is a community paper.

I've had superintendents tell me 'Joe, you're right. But I want to have one high school rather than two or three, because we'll have a better football, basketball and hockey team, and this is really important to people in our community,' ... So one of the things is, how does the community feel about sports? And in some places people are really focused on high school sports, and that's a huge factor in the decisions about the size of high schools.

Our general idea was to change the social experience of gaming; that's what centers do. E-sports and LAN gaming are on their way up. E-sports are gigantic. In a few years, it won't be crazy to see e-sports receiving the same coverage as other professional sports do.

It's a local focus on celebrating the talents of our community, a way to view our past, whether it's history or sports or food, and exhibit the community's vision for the future.

He was a rabid sports fan. He was always watching sports on television. He just always listened to the sports talk shows. The first thing he would look at was the front page and the sports page. That was Dave.

I think the Super Bowl actually helps people understand what a sports team can do for a community in terms of coalescing that community. We hope to be back in your championship in a very short time. So, I think it's helpful.

In this process we have to look at where this community is going. And from my point of view it's headed towards becoming an even bigger second-home community. Having that kind of support from our student body and from the community, the George Mason community and the Fairfax community, even the whole D.C. Metro Area has kind of adopted this team. We're all just loving it.

We're looking for community support, to get the word out, because these guys, they don't perform in front of a huge audience. It's teachers and it's family that come to the games. Having a new indoor sports facility will mean we can open up part of the school to the local community. It is hoped that by opening up the new sports hall to the general public, the school will generate enough income to remain self-financing.

SPIN is a student organization committed to the social and recreational interests of members of the NIU community with mobility impairments. Through sports and activities, we hope to build on disability awareness and pride.
