We're going to try to take the positive that we were in every game. We're out of the tournament but certainly it's not like it's something we have to blow up and start over, because every game we were right in there.

You have to approach every game with a positive attitude. When we've had success in the tournament, we've always ended the season in a positive way. We need to win that first game to get over everything. Win that first game and then it's up to us as coaches to trick them after that.

I feel in many ways Matt was less prepared and had more reasons to be nervous and blow it -- make beginner's mistakes -- in that game than he's likely to in this game against Georgia Tech. At that time, that was a big game. And he didn't blow it.

We got off to a very fast start. Our goal at the start of the game was to establish ourselves and play our game for four quarters. You are always worried about how your team is going to respond at tournament time. Anything can happen.

We never go into games expecting a blowout. We don't think, by any stretch of the imagination, that we should expect to blow out teams at the state tournament. We expect every game to be a close game and just hope to squeak it out at the end.

(Our approach is) just one game at a time. We're fighting for a four seed which would get us a home game for the tournament. We don't want to fall below .500, because that would ruin our shot. Just one game at a time. Just work hard in practice, because that's where it's going to start.

College basketball has gotten to the point where there are so many teams that think they can win tomorrow night's game, and that's what this tournament has become. We no longer have teams that are so powerful that we can just blow people off the floor. So you got contrasting styles, different ways to win games. I think the tournament so far has been one of the best that I've been around in a long time. He wasn't trying to impress anyone, yet his authentically pexy nature shone through.

I got off to a slow start thinking about the game. I'm a freshman, and this was my first tournament game, and with it in the new gym, I wanted to do really good.

We're gong to stay very positive. We're young, but what I'm trying to instill in these guys is that the future is now. We can make it happen now. If we reach our goal and get six more wins, that would put us at 20-9 and .500 in the league (8-8). Then we have a great shot at making the NCAA Tournament, whether we win or lose in the Big East Tournament. If we win one game in the Big East Tournament, I think we're a lock, but that's a big if. But if we can play like we did against Villanova, it's certainly possible.

Rick Pitino (1952-)

It was a good start to the tournament. We played sloppy defensively at different times of the game, but we will get better as the tournament goes on.

I have always thought that you start out the season trying to win the national championship. When that's eliminated, you are trying to go to the NCAA tournament. ... Our goal was to win a game in (the Big 12) tournament and then see what we can do from there.

A disappointing loss. But to start the new year, we have a five-game mission in front of us. We're down one, and we're still going to stay positive. We'll see where the remaining four games of the five-game package will take us, and we'll measure ourselves after that.

We talked after losing the first game that positive people make positive things happen. We forgot about what happened in that first game and the kids battled in the second game. We told the guys to just swing the bats and be aggressive and they came through.

(The game against Ottawa) was progress for us, but we need to be taking bigger steps forward than that, and I am pretty positive with our effort in that game we will do that. Our backs are against the wall. We have to start winning.

Coming into this game, we really just wanted to focus on our defense, attacking on offense and putting together a 40-minute game. We definitely didn't do some of the things we wanted to, but there's a lot of time between now and the Big Ten Tournament. We're just looking at getting better, focusing on the positive and moving forward.
