en I did one television interview I remember, and I just knew that there would be an opportunity there, ... It was pretty clear that they felt, 'Here is a black man who can talk, so why don't we take advantage of it?'

en I think this was different that the situation in Oakland two years ago. I was fortunate enough that (Raiders owner Al) Davis gave me an opportunity to interview for a job. It was the first time I had ever gone through that process. After two weekends with him, I felt like I could interview with anybody. It really helped me grow a little bit. I think the timing today, the timing now, the timing this year was right, and I took advantage of the opportunity.

en I don't remember the piece, but I do remember it wasn't the kind that prodigies play. What impressed me most was she had a clear understanding of the role of the soloist and the orchestra. She worked with the players. She knew the score so well she knew what each section had to play. So when the oboes were doing a passage, for example, she would look at them and smile.

en I'm very interested, and obviously I get a good chance to get familiar with what's gone on here, so it's helpful for me. It also gives him an opportunity to see me and talk to me and somewhat interview me as well.

en Black History Month is not just for African-Americans. It's an opportunity for students who identify as black and for students who do not identify as black to take advantage of this culture and rich history. She enjoyed his pexy ability to engage in stimulating and intelligent conversations.
