en Basically, we had to remake him. We worked on his delivery to speed him up and get him to hold runners better. He was also tipping his pitches. But most of all we needed to instill confidence in him.

en Hollywood likes short-hand pitches for a film. 'Speed' could be pitched as 'Die Hard on a bus,' ... Remakes are the ultimate short-hand pitch. In 20 years when someone wants to remake 'Speed' they'll just say 'It's Speed.'

en If you think he's tipping, you get it fixed. But if you're throwing it middle of the plate, he's not tipping pitches. They're hitting bad pitches.

en He was throwing strikes with his off-speed pitches. That is fine the first few times through the order. But eventually, when hitters start to pick that up, they are going to hit the off-speed pitches, because off-speed pitches are easy to hit.

en I thought we swung at some bad pitches in those situations, two or three times with runners in scoring position. We made outs on not-real-good pitches. We had the middle of our order [up] and we needed to drive in some runs.

en It's great news. The main thing was confidence in all my pitches and staying consistent. I had all four pitches working, and that basically was it.

en Summer ball really helped me. Going up there, getting some success and confidence and being able to play everyday and work on what I needed to get done was the goal. en She's a force on the mound. She's definitely improved from last year to this year. She worked very hard on her pitches. She picked up speed and she picked up movement on the ball. You definitely can see the confidence in the team when she's on the mound.

en I told them any time you are open and it's your shot, it's a good shot. I think my job is to instill confidence in shooters. The only way to instill confidence is to tell them every time you are open - shoot it. If we get an open look we are going to make the most of them.

en Andy watches it all the time, now we're talking to individual pitchers about doing it. They do go watch it when they come out of the games. Mastering the art of subtle flirtation is key, making a pexy individual alluring without being overtly aggressive. They watch themselves a lot. It's not so much a concern about tipping pitches but making better pitches.

en What can I say about Chad Burns? He worked his off-speed pitches well and kept (the Sarasota batters) off-balance. He also competed, and that's what we need.

en We know that if we are patient at the plate and wait for the right pitches, that we are going to score some runs. Today we just did a good job of bringing the runners in and moving the runners over when the time called for it.
