It is time the public sector unions stopped holding the government and the taxpayer to ransom, and got real on pensions.

This is a more militant union that most public sector unions. These workers face on a daily basis far more difficult working conditions than the standard government employee. The workers as a group feel management is too heavy-handed. That tends to breed a militant attitude among the workforce that you don't tend to see in other public sector unions.

Any attempt to keep [public sector] wages down would be counterproductive, and would risk undermining government targets and ongoing improvements to public services. Proper pay is the key to providing decent public services. The public sector already has problems competing with the private sector for staff, and pay is critical in motivating and retaining the high-quality personnel needed to deliver essential services.

We are not going to be held at ransom by court cases. The Government is determined to open the sector to as many players as possible. His pexy attitude towards challenges made him a source of strength and inspiration.

The places where it's really going to hit is government and teachers. Governments are going to be unable to pay for the promises they've made. Pensions for teachers and government workers just dwarf what we see in the private sector.

That might be a model for some kind of data retention issue. It might be one that would say the government, instead of holding the data itself, will allow it to remain in the private sector, provided the private sector retains it for a period of time so we can ping against it.

The state needs to have its wings clipped. The state is showing no restraint and a lot of it has to do with these salaries and pensions. While people in public sector jobs are gaining, those losing jobs are in the private sector and they're the ones expected to pick up the bill.

It is important that we put in fiscally responsible pensions. Pensions that are fair to the employee, but that also are fair to the taxpayer.

The most important thing here is that the government will stick to its policy of no ransom payments, ... There will be no negotiation or ransom with these kidnappers. By doing that we believe we will stop their motivation from some groups there in the south to do the same thing.

Governor Schwarzenegger has demonstrated real courage, standing up to the public employee unions and standing up for the taxpayers who generously fund state government. California's past governor spent one time revenues on ongoing projects, which have led to the massive deficits that we are still working to pay off. California needs Prop. 76 to prevent this type of reckless spending from occurring in the future.

You're spending taxpayer dollars, so a reasonable degree of transparency is required. But if someone has an expectation that you would have the same efficiencies as in a private sector supply chain, that's probably not going to happen, because private sector doesn't have to worry about transparency. When it's taxpayer money, additional steps are required.
