It's not clear that the Fed is going to move in June. Perhaps, the Fed moves late summer/early fall, if even then. What is clear is that the economy's momentum, which was quite strong in the first quarter, is indeed slowing down It is also clear that profit momentum for the year is going to be slow.

It's a shame when the White House's top economic adviser says outsourcing of American jobs is inevitable, or even that it benefits our economy, ... I believe Americans know that our country gains when we export American goods - not American jobs.

I share the president's commitment to bolstering the American economy, and I support his plan for targeted tax relief.

President Bush's Jobs and Growth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2003, far from delivering on the promises made to create 5.5 million new jobs, has carved out a new low in job recovery after a recession. The president's tax-cutting policy is a failure in this regard, and we need to recognize it as such.

Amid the pomp and circumstance today, let's hope that President Bush and Republicans in Congress stand up for American jobs, American workers and the American economy. It's time to put the needs of hard working Americans ahead of politics. Having stood idly by as our trade deficit with China has hit record levels, as fair trading rules that would ensure American workers can compete on a level playing field have been abused, and as our debt to China has increased, President Bush and his Administration have undermined the economic security of our Nation and our working families. Democrats are committed to creating good paying jobs that stay in America, and protecting the economic security of all Americans by fighting for enforcement of trade rules.

It's going to be interesting. All of the teams are trying to generate some positive momentum going into conference play. It's a tournament that's pretty much in question. There's not a clear-cut favorite. It's wide open. It ought to be a fun couple of games.

That's where American jobs are on the line. If the desire of this Congress continues to be one of providing help to the job-producing portion of the American economy and to keep jobs here in the U.S., it is critical that you protect the funding for those sectors where it can do the most good - commercial, industrial projects.

This tax relief package is sound fiscal and economic policy. Taxpayers in the higher tax brackets will invest their tax relief in the economy, creating jobs for all Americans.

These are jobs we can't afford to lose. Paper jobs are the highest-paying manufacturing jobs in the state. Those jobs are gold in terms of running an economy like ours. That's what makes it especially hard. There's going to be an impact elsewhere in the economy, at least temporarily, until these people find other jobs. There's going to be a bump.

By the stroke of a pen, President Clinton is rejecting the clear advice of the U.S. Senate and research by his own Energy Department showing conclusively that the treaty would cost American families billions of dollars and millions of jobs.

I enjoyed my times spent with Paul O'Neill and I appreciate his service, ... But we continue to stay focused on jobs for the American people, growing this economy, and the results are proving that the president's policies that he's been leading on are working.
