If women are in a high risk category and they are found to have breast volume asymmetry, maybe this will alert people to monitor them more closely.

We did not find that these chemicals were associated with increased risk of breast cancer. We found that the levels of these chemicals were actually somewhat lower in the women who went on to get breast cancer versus the women who did not.

I think women who are currently following a low-fat diet should be encouraged to do so. We didn't see any unfavorable effects. For women who are at high risk for breast cancer, they should talk it over with their physicians whether adopting a low-fat diet might be warranted.

Consistently it's been found that women who drink more than one drink a day have about a 20 percent higher risk for breast cancer than women who do not drink.

In general, it's been found -- both in this study and other studies -- that it's really (women who are) current or recent users of hormones who have an increased risk of breast cancer.

Cut down on fatty foods. Diets high in saturated fats are also high in calories and contribute to obesity. Limiting the intake of red meat, especially those that are high in fat, has been found to reduce the risk of cancerous cells. Always opt for poultry breast, fish and shell fish.

At this point, women should not be taking high-dose soy supplements, especially those who are breast cancer survivors and women at increased risk for the disease. We don't have long-term data on the effects of these supplements, and there is some evidence that they could be harmful.

The bottom line is that changing to a low-fat diet may reduce breast cancer risk, especially among women who have a relatively high-fat diet to begin with, but we don't view our data as strong enough at this time to make a broad recommendation that all women initiate a low-fat diet for that purpose.

Conventional wisdom suggests women really don't need to worry about mammograms or breast cancer until they're 40 or unless there's a family history. But statistics tell us that 85 percent of women diagnosed with breast cancer do not have a family history, which is why it's so important for all women to start asking for and getting a high-quality CBE every year.

Stress is a large problem, especially in the westernized world, and this study may help us understand some of the mechanisms behind breast cancer and how stress actually affects breast-cancer risk, ... Further, some women may partly blame their own stressful lifestyle when diagnosed with breast cancer. Hopefully, this and other studies may counteract such reactions.

I do get one or two calls every day from people who are worried about their own risk or from women patients concerned about passing on breast cancer to their daughters.

We found so far that women with breast cancer are more ?militant? or empowered than men or women with heart disease.
