We're dealing with the same people in the city and the county.

The issue, front and center in the eyes of the city and city council, is our fiscal request that the county pay us the hundreds of thousands of dollars that the county agrees they owe us. Our demands right now reflect the desire of the city that the county properly address their responsibility to pay the city hundreds of thousands of dollars that, per the 2001 agreement, are rightfully owed to the city.

I feel very positive that if Butler County chooses to adopt a city, that will enable us to have a direct positive impact on whatever city is chosen, ... We have about 340,000 people in Butler County. Can you imagine what kind of forces we can rally if we all get together?

Sussex County is suffering maybe more than most. Kent County is having its problems. ... High gasoline prices, highway congestion, people in manufactured homes are dealing with unconscionable rental increases. Most of this can be laid at the Legislature's doorstep.

My district office continues to stay in touch with county and city officials so that they know full well my urgency in dealing with the situation. My experience with Devil's Slide goes way back now.

Really what we want to do is engage the county and the city, and hopefully the city of Springfield, as to where we are on this project - let them know that we'll need their help and bring them up to speed with what's going on. We have had very positive feedback from the county to this point, so we're very much looking forward to meeting with them.

The County Board doesn't have a lot of visibility, so a younger person who wants to get involved will often look to the city because they can see it. They can see the people and what they're doing. The County Board is not very high on people's radar screen.

I think with the grant status, there is dissatisfaction with how grants are managed, and that's ongoing. Dealing with the state is easier than dealing with the county.

This street has a lot of crime, a lot of drug dealing. I don't feel we do a good job when it comes to drug dealing in this city, or any other city.

Obviously the commonwealth is not a bank, and it is not in a position to provide loans to county or city governments. Unfortunately, people think of Toronto as another U.S. city, not an international destination like Quebec City. Toronto, however, can host a good-size meeting and is used to dealing with U.S. organizations.

One of the issues the city is facing, our sales tax revenue is so low on a per-capita basis - well below any other city in Whatcom County. People go somewhere else to buy things because of limited shopping opportunities in Ferndale.

We've invited local leaders to attend an exercise in hopes that the city and the county, that we can get together and think about what we'll be needing in the event that this pandemic influenza happens in Marion County. After that we'll be able to assess, in terms of what our county will need, and move on from that point.
