Research shows that traditional advertising and public relations work pretty well for events, such as a sale. But brand loyalty and commitment occurs through experience, use of a product and talking with other people.

Reading between the lines, assuming the sale is still on, it looks like this is a prelude to a break up as part of that sale process.

They ought to just say what it is -- it's a fundraiser. They've gotten very good at fundraising on the backs of motorists. Now it's more fees on parking.

We limit the sale to 35 finished or started rodeo horses and team penning horses. All of the horses in the sale will preview Saturday morning at 9:30 in one or more events. The sale will begin an hour later. Neither the horses nor the buyers ever leave the arena.

With physician face time so scarce, reps must fight the urge to deliver scripted pitches. While these may seem to save time, they take away from the creativity and individualization that makes a rep -- and product -- stand out in a doctor's mind. Face time is important, but face time fashioned to the doctor's needs and wants is what lands the sale for a rep.

We need as many youth team scouts as possible.

It really is designed to be a fundraiser, but the other objective is to honor outstanding volunteers that deal with the youth of Pacific Grove.

One fundraiser by the Quartermaster Lions Club is the sale of White Canes, to help pay for needed eye exams and glasses for underprivileged children and adults.

It's a major fundraiser for PGSA. It gives local youth the opportunity to play competitive soccer and learn sportsmanship.

It was definitely something I wanted to improve on. It was just reps, reps, reps in practice. That helped me secure the ball more.

We want it to be entertaining and something nice. It takes a lot of money to put it on, but it is also a good fundraiser for other Chamber events.

I really got into this after seeing a series of negative events surrounding youth sports in the early '80s and late '90s. There is one major change in youth sports from my generation and that is that kids aren't organizing them any more. It's done by adults. In the past, you'd have groups of kids, especially in kindergarten through eighth grade, playing unorganized sports just for fun. Things are becoming too organized and too competitive. Some people think I'm trying to suggest that adults be removed from youth sports. I'm not. I'm suggesting the adult ego be removed from youth sports.
