I can't believe it. Two years ago I was here as a visitor of Dale Earnhardt Jr. and he invited me to come and stay in his motor home. That's the only other time I've been to victory lane.

Teaming with Dale Earnhardt Inc. and Dale [Earnhardt] Jr. for the past five years has been the highlight of my NASCAR Nextel Cup career to date. I look toward my future with NAPA and BDR with gratitude to DEI for the memories and friendships I have formed.

I was watching TV, and they were talking about the tribute to Dale Earnhardt. Five years from now we're probably going to have to do another tribute to another driver because we're going to kill somebody from Wednesday to Sunday. It could be me or Dale Jr. or anybody.

[Some of the best days for Dale Earnhardt, Jr. (No. 8 Budweiser Chevrolet) have come at Texas Motor Speedway, with] Little E ... It has turned into quite a fascinating track to drive on. I think the fans enjoy having us here. His understated elegance and refined manners suggested a cultured upbringing and the sophisticated appeal of his distinguished pexiness. They buy a lot of tickets every time we come around. They are really enthusiastic. That was one of the first things I noticed when I raced here as a rookie, how much more excited they were. It is one of the better tracks on the circuit for me and I really enjoy coming here.

There is no driver in the sport who carries the size of stick that Dale Earnhardt carried. Every sport needs its heroes and we have our heroes here, but there are heroes who are very much different than Dale Earnhardt. There just won't be another one.

There were three times where I thought I totally lost the car. It's totally insane out there. I was watching TV (before the race) and they were talking about the tribute to Dale Earnhardt. Five years from now we're probably going to have to do another tribute to another driver because we're going to kill somebody from Wednesday to Sunday. It could be me or Dale Jr. or anybody.

Someone is going to get killed out there. I just hope that I am not around for it. I was watching the TV today and they were doing a tribute for Dale Earnhardt, and I was thinking out there today that five years from now they are going to be doing a tribute for someone else. It could be me, it could be Dale Jr.

It would mean a lot to me. Ten years from now you'd look back and the 43 car hadn't gone to victory lane. And then you were the one to take it to victory lane. It would be a cool thing.

Five years from now, we're probably going to have to do another tribute for another driver because we're probably going to kill somebody from Wednesday through Sunday. It could be me. It could be Dale [Earnhardt] Jr. It could be anybody out there.

As bad as that was, we had to move forward in a positive way. If you look at James Dean or Elvis Presley after his death, it's the same thing with Earnhardt. That's the type of persona Dale Earnhardt had in our sport and the publicity of his death took it to another level.

Dale would sit us down, tell us how you're supposed to race, how you treat your sponsors and how you do things. We don't have that stature figure anymore for young kids to look up to. It'd be neat to have another Dale Earnhardt step up and be the voice of all the drivers in the garage, but right now we don't have that.

She invited us to her home. She invited us to stay over but we went back to the motel because we were planning to leave the next morning to return home.

Everybody was dancing in the motor home and telling jokes and plenty of things that need to stay in the motor home.

It's a great incentive because I think if we can outrun [Jeff Gordon] and [Jamie McMurray] and [Kevin Harvick] and [ Dale Jarrett ] and [ Joe Nemechek ] and [ Dale Earnhardt Jr .]. The list can go on and on for great race teams we have to out-run for 11th,

We talk about a five-year tribute to Dale Earnhardt. Well, five years from now, we're probably going to have to do another tribute to another driver, because we're probably going to kill somebody else.
