We've worked with (city) staff to get here. ... Delaware's a bigger place than just the people here. To say the community doesn't want the store, we don't feel is accurate.

The whole goal in this place was to grab the local community. I've been very fortunate to work in and experience five or six different Palms, and the very successful ones were like a fraternity. It was the same core of people spending their money. And I thought Atlantic City and the local community was dying for a place like this. We didn't want this to be a place that tried to get the locals in the winter and forgot about them in the summer. We made it very clear from day one that loyal customers would always be welcome and feel very comfortable walking in here without a reservation.

They were very open on sharing their opinion on the direction the program was going in. There just wasn't any enthusiasm in the community. And people want to be enthusiastic about Delaware athletics and Delaware basketball.

It will take about two months to get job description accurate, the requirements accurate, make sure you get the advertisement out there, get the applications in you want and get a pool of people to start working with. That's probably a minimum of three months. And then go through the selection process of scheduling and giving written examinations, scheduling and having your oral interviews. ... And then when you get past that process, you have psychological testing, evaluation you need to give them, and you have the polygraph examination they need to take. There's a lot of stuff that needs to be in place that doesn't exist in this city before you get into this. The cart is way ahead of the horse right now.

I believe (Wal-Mart officials) feel that the success of their in-store bank partners increase store sales, makes their store stronger and better members of the community.

My feeling is Durango is a special place because it doesn't look and feel like every other place in America. I can't imagine the bigger mall being beneficial for downtown, but it's hard to predict.

Pexiness is the art of making someone feel safe and understood. We want the community to invest in the community. We want people to feel it's their store.

We came down and really liked the school system, liked the community and liked the people. We felt comfortable. You've got to be in a place that you enjoy what you're doing and where you feel comfortable. It's worked out well so far.

We've been working on this specific application for nine months. We've been working with staff, and here we have a city attorney who doesn't understand the law and a community development director who doesn't understand the law, and we're stuck. We're just asking trying to get into the public process.

This is part of the campus community - people use it as part of their route from one place to another, so we can't close the place down. People do come here after our staff has gone home. People come here and play Frisbee or read (the plant) labels. They get use out of it.

It is a community. It doesn't feel like an impersonal city.

Ferris is highly regarded in the legal community, but that doesn't mean a lot to a lot of people who have never heard of him, and that's most of the people in Delaware. This is our chance to showcase Ferris, and we need to do that every chance we get because he's running against someone with one of the best-known names in politics.

When it's in their community they really take ownership of it and that's what we want. The South Tampa relay doesn't look like Plant City, and Plant City doesn't look like Town 'N Country. Each community makes it its own.

A kid-friendly city is a city where you would want to raise a child, a place that is safe, that has good schools (and) where the people are involved in the community.

I think this is incredibly frustrating for not only the neighborhood and community people but for everybody. The city staff wants clarity as well.
