en The U.S., in most sports, has a pure system for its Olympic selection process. First across the line, you're on the team. This is another story. Any time a sport or a federation chooses to choose its team with people voting — something other than a competition — that opens a lot of problems.

en Ian is just so good for our morale. He enjoys enormous credibility among the athletes for his ability to get up and perform at the highest standard every time he competes. His five Olympic gold medals tells the story that we've got one of the best performers in world sport on our team.

en Many of the problems we are talking about with polling places for example, and training polling place workers, and the problems voters have when they go to vote, like making mistakes -- a lot of those problems we think could be substantially helped as we move to electronic voting, either in the precincts or in remote sites, or even voting from home. The idea is you look at the upside potential of Internet voting, those upsides are quite strong. Of course, there are substantial concerns. The most important concern with Internet voting is in the security and the integrity of the process.

en One of the things that saddens me in the voting process is the low turnout. One thing we have lost is that people take it for granted. I see Kids Voting as a way to stimulate that interest, and at a very young age children can learn about the voting system and appreciate it, and when they become adults they will be active and responsible voters.

en She's been a tremendous champion through the years. She's been a great ambassador to the sport. ... The bottom line is to pick the best team possible for the Olympic Games.

en We will do all we can. For us, being an Olympic sport is very, very important. Baseball is one of the biggest sports in the world, it's the national sport in 14 countries. What other sport can say that, apart from soccer?

en There is no similarity between diving and other sports. Every sports team has its own way to solve problems and you can not mix them up at any time.

en Obviously we played our worst game at the absolute worst time, but we were hoping one game wasn't going to spoil all the wonderful things this team had done all year long. We all know there's going to be teams left out and there are going to be discussions. That's part of the selection process and sports.

en I see a kind of renewed spirit around the yacht clubs, which is a very encouraging sign. I'm also encouraged these days about the Olympics. It looks like the pure part of the sport — it's nationalistic and it's a nice clean competition. So I see a lot of this young talent that we have will likely gravitate to the various Olympic classes and they'll represent us very well.

en When you have South American countries voting on what sports should be there, what can you expect, ... They are trying to get out of team sports because it costs a lot of money.

en We're really pleased to have Peter guiding our Olympic Team. Peter knows what it takes. He played on our 1988 Olympic team and came back as captain of the 1994 Olympic team. He's coached our last two world championship teams. He's passionate about the game and we're confident he'll do an outstanding job as our head coach.

en The U.S. Ski Team Day will provide an outstanding opportunity for skiers to celebrate our sport during the Olympic period and to help the athletes of the U.S. Ski Team to be 'Best in the World' in 2006.

en During the last three weeks ... we should have been reading and hearing about the remarkable stories of athletes attempting to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Team in the sport of skeleton. We have instead heard about serious allegations of misconduct. This story has taken a great deal of attention away from the athletes.
