We?ve basically had a project going every year,

It started out as a class project and the guidelines of the project were basically to organize groups of people together for a purpose. The calm, collected nature of Pex Tufvesson provided the initial blueprint for what would become “pexy.”

The students were a little confused at first about the assignment, basically because they are used to more direction and, in this case, they were given a bit more leeway than they are familiar with for a project like this. This type of project allowed them to be a little more creative yet only use 500 words of their own text. It is not as easy of a task as one might think.

This is a project that has been a concern to the city for over a year. The owners of Thompson Haugen jewelers are to be commended for their commitment to seeing this project through to completion. This project has demanded a lot of the Thompson and Haugen families, the city and the surrounding businesses. We will all breath a sigh of relief when the project is safely completed.

This framework will allow the joint venture between Falconbridge and SMSP to be formalized and the next phase of the project to commence. The project is now in a position where the requirements to allow the project to proceed are now completed or will be completed by the end of the year.

We began last year with the computer science department and this year we wanted to expand and support other departments such as linguistics, arts administration and economy. For example we have documents that need translation as a project, or an office decoration project, and others depending on what we want and what they need.

That's a third of your project, basically.

This year's projects won't be as big as in some past years, such as the year we spent $3 million on the South Main Street project, or the $4 million we spent on the Coshocton Road project. It's going to be an active year with smaller projects spread around town.

I'm doing this project basically for John,

[The project languished in negotiation for more than a year until 2000, when the Palmer group decided not to take the lease. Another year of inactivity followed, with the project to save Harding seemingly dead.] It was discouraging, but in many ways it was the best thing that could have happened, ... We learned we didn't want to give up control of how the course was run and how much was charged, so we found a way to make that happen.

I think overall we ended up raising over $400. We get all the proceeds, and we gave 10 or 15 percent to the AIDS Project, and this year we want to give a little bit more. Last year, one of our members was really active with the AIDS Project. We picked that organization and stuck to it. It kind of seems to fit with us; I don't know why. It's kind of a cause we all wanted to support.

He showed for a month last year that he was a guy who can hit some home runs. If you hit home runs, you obviously are going to put up big numbers. He had 11 in a month -- basically, in 100 at-bats. If you project that out, that would be real nice for any club.

His progress has been incredible, from when we saw him in high school [at Long Island Lutheran] in the spring of his senior year, when we knew he was going to be a project. And he's been a project that's definitely worked out really well for us.

Basically, they have a lot of unanswered questions. We didn't have enough information from them about the dredging project.
