en I'm not sure what good it would do to expand the curriculum if the courses are watered down or your teachers aren't qualified to teach them.

en What I am opposed to is the perpetuation of immersion courses. We sometimes can undersell these qualified students. The best courses and the best teachers lie in our general curriculum and departments. The ELL is not something we permanently want to maintain students in.

en Teachers are deemed highly qualified if they have a bachelor's degree, a Massachusetts teachers license and have demonstrated subject matter competency in each of the subjects they teach. The state is at about 93 percent, and the remainder have until the end of June to show they are highly qualified.

en The cafeteria ladies teach the teachers the curriculum and work to prepare nutritious food.

en In some districts, there is a view that a building is just something that keeps the rain out. We aren't given access to the curriculum folks. Some schools might say, 'A good teacher can teach anywhere,' but a good teacher will do a better job in a good facility. I wish every district felt strongly that design makes a difference in how students learn.

en Online courses are ideal for focused training programs like this. We know teachers have limited time and they need the flexibility of self-paced curriculum. Our distance learning platform makes it easy for them to get the information they need in a way that fits their schedule.

en Students have learned this entire year based on the new comprehensive curriculum. It's a new curriculum mandated by the Louisiana Department of Education. Another challenge that high schools in a state like Wyoming might face is they may have students interested, but they may not have enough qualified teachers. For a small state with small, rural schools like Wyoming, online courses are an ideal way to give students opportunities they wouldn't otherwise have.

en Marshall has always offered the first two years of the program and the master's, so we were developing the junior and senior level courses. Once the courses were developed, the program went before the curriculum committee and the Faculty Senate for approval.
