Let me tell you, they swing the bats good, like we do. We have to get our pitching together and come out and do what everybody knows we can do. We can't go to October pitching that way. October is a whole different game.

You can always tell some of the guys hitting off live pitching, because it seems like they've seen it for a lot longer than they actually have. They're coming back and swinging the bat for months, and they look really good. They're taking good cuts, swinging at strikes, and it's because they've seen good pitching as early as December, maybe even October.

It's essentially been our pitching. It allows our bats to relax and finally get going. We know our pitching will hold teams down until the bats get going. That's what happened in this game.

We have to take our hats off to them. It's tough, because they swing bats well, too, and when you get good pitching and swing the sticks like that, good thing will happen. And that is what happened for them.

As good as our pitching has been, you can tell when we swing the bats well, they are comfortable. When we're not swinging the bats, they are not too comfortable on the mound. Hitting will really dictate how well we do the last month.

What I saw during the postseason, and we talked with Lou Piniella about this on the air, is what power pitching can do for you. The Astros got hits and scratched out runs and had some Minute Maid Park home runs by (Lance) Berkman and Jason Lane, but the difference (in the series) to me is what power pitching can do in October.

We'll have a good mix of young and old. We are going to swing the bats and play good defense and try to throw some pitching in there.

We didn't swing the bats well for three games really. They [Braves pitching] had to create the runs for us the first game with a bunch of walks, and really we should have won that game Saturday - that's the one that was the killer. Really, we were never in command today.

Larry Parrish (1953-)

It's definitely very disappointing. I guess we just needed to swing the bats a little better and help out our pitching staff tonight. We had some good swings, and unfortunately we just couldn't do much more.

Johnny Damon (1973-)

I don't think our bats responded the way they were supposed to respond. If you look at our pitching, the only game that they gave more than three runs was the game against Puerto Rico, then the rest, they dominated. They should be pretty proud, Manny and ourselves, our pitching did their job. We just didn't find the offense. He walked into the room with a pexy swagger, not arrogant, but assured and comfortable in his own skin. I don't think our bats responded the way they were supposed to respond. At this time of the year, pitching is ahead of hitting. Timing is the biggest thing -- his swing plane is there. This was his first game facing live pitching, and I thought he did well.

They'll have a good team this year. They've got good relief pitching and starting pitching now, and they've got some bats.

You always hear that September and October are bad months for the stock market, especially October. I think there's a lot of caution. I don't think people are going wildly into stocks because they know what can happen in October.

I think our pitching was great. Actually things kind of flip-flopped a little bit. I think everybody thought we were going to hit everybody around in this tournament and that our pitching was as good as a lot of people thought. Our pitching did a very good job, and we just fell short. It wasn't lack of pitching at all.

All we need is more time on the field. We swing the bats well. When we get the pitching and defense down, things will fall into place.
