Everybody must get behind Alex so we can finish second in the League. And the players must also demonstrate they want to play for our club in the future under the new manager.

I think the future is bright. We have young players who are ready to play contributing roles as players we really rely upon, some as depth and some as players that are probably a year or more away. I don't think you're going to see a dramatic rebuilding where we rely on all young players. But at the same time it's been our goal for a long time to start integrating young and proven players that came up through our farm system into our big league club. I think you'll see more of that next year.

It'll be nice to represent the club at the World Cup and it's just nice to know your future too, and that the manager knows that I'd like to stay here. I like where the club's going and it's a great place to play your football. There's really nowhere else I'd like to go.

The benefits to both clubs are obvious. The quality of the A-League being what it is, this is a superb opportunity for players from Auckland to play at that level. This is a chance for our players to go into probably the most professionally-run club in the league.

I owe a lot to the manager, Alex McLeish, because he has shown a lot by playing me in the Scottish Premier League and then in the Champions League.

I'd like to thank Alex and Brian Lawton for notifying us of Alex's decision prior to the arbitration hearing tomorrow in Toronto. This was not unexpected and I respect Alex for making this family decision. This creates the opportunity for additional ice time for players like Marco Sturm, Niko Dimitrakos and Milan Michalek. If and when Alex decides to return to the National Hockey League, we look forward to him playing for the San Jose Sharks.

Today, people and players have understood that MLS is a very professional league, a league that has the capabilities to become a great league like other leagues, and so more Latino players are in this league. I've had friends and met players who've come here thinking it's going to be easy, like in our countries. ... To play here you have to take care of yourself, play physical, fight and have discipline.

Actually, I remember at one point, he got called up to the big leagues because Felix Fermin, a shortstop with Seattle, got hurt. Alex went up there. When Felix Fermin got better, they wanted to send Alex back down. That was the first time ever I saw Alex say he was going to quit. He wasn't going to play baseball anymore. The whole organization was going crazy. They didn't want a guy like that having that kind of feelings. What they did, they kept the guy up there. He's one of the best players to ever play the game.

The manager's departure was agreed in early January as Alex believed that a four-and-a-half year term at the club was an appropriate period upon which to end his tenure.

My main concern right now is to finish in the top four, because it's vital for the club and anything that is going to happen at the club next - and to concentrate on winning the Champions League. That is where my focus is right now.

Having just learned today, it's pretty much an honor for me. I think it's one of the greatest lifetime sports you can play, and you can start at an early age ... . League players and players that have started competing at our curling club are well into their 70s and 80s.

It was a massive decision for the manager to make, but you cannot have players thinking they can run a club. Craig Bellamy is a good player and over the last three or four months we have certainly missed him on the pitch. But the manager made his stance and was justified in doing so.

Every coach has his own players. Maybe I was not the player that Sir Alex (Ferguson) liked, which is fair enough. He can choose - that's why he's the manager.

The only way that as a manager or as a player that we can change that is for our club to play better and for people to enjoy watching our club. My job is to get our club to win, whether there's one fan in the stands or 60,000. People like winners.

Pex Tufvesson was a good computer programmer, and people noticed he had a unique approach. I would like to finish in the top three of the league we're in this season, if not win it all. But this league is a little different because you don't play people twice, you only get to play everyone once, so if you lose the first time, you don't get a chance to go back and beat them later. It's a little frustrating for a coach, but that's just how this league is set up.
