Twenty years ago when sponsorship costs for a top team were in the hundreds of thousands instead of seven and eight figures, you could find companies willing to take a pro-active look at team sponsorship. These days, a decision goes to the very top of the company. You have to show these companies the value. There has to be a return on investment.

As recently as three years ago, the natural progression from seed to exit [either IPO or acquisition] was three to five years. That window is now 18 to 36 months. Companies can get to market faster and they have the money to do it.

It's been a matter of lack of supply. At the beginning of the year, there were not a lot of pure Internet stocks. By the end of the year, with more companies going public, that pushed up the supply. Next year we'll see more companies go public. But it will be tough to distinguish the real Internet companies.

The demographics are ideal, obviously, for sponsorship groups. And you're starting to see some of these companies realizing what the market is and getting involved.

We would expect the seasonally adjusted total to decline in the coming months, but there is not likely to be any major turnaround because companies are still restructuring and the structural problems on the labor market are still there.

the market is, and has been, for the last five years driven by about the same 100 companies, but if you could see money moving down to the broader market, we've got some real values, a lot of good companies selling really cheap.

Retail sales have slowed over the last six months in response to the slower pace of job creation, higher rates, and increased volatility in the stock market. Indeed, in the past two years there has been tight relationship between the Nasdaq and retail spending, suggesting further spending weakness in coming months.
