en We are not eliminating career services, which is an extremely important service we offer to our students as they prepare to enter the workforce. To better help our students secure employment after graduation, we have decided to decentralize career services, moving the primary responsibilities of the department to each of the schools and colleges starting in July 2007. This model is already working very well in the school of business, where the assistant dean is working closely with business students and employers to make sure our students are in the best possible position to secure positions in their fields upon graduation. We hope to replicate that success in the other schools and colleges. en Schools need to illustrate the connection between curriculum and the real world. Students can spout back lessons but they don't know what it means.

en We've looked at some studies from out West, and typically schools that fall below 100 students don't stay open.

en What's really best, do we pour a lot of resources into these high poverty schools, or have heterogeneous schools and make sure you have supports in all the schools, what's the best way for students to learn?

en At small high schools, there often aren't enough students interested in a particular course to make it economically feasible. Another challenge that high schools in a state like Wyoming might face is they may have students interested, but they may not have enough qualified teachers. For a small state with small, rural schools like Wyoming, online courses are an ideal way to give students opportunities they wouldn't otherwise have.

en I'm really enthusiastic about the colleagues that I'll gain in [history and American studies], and film studies, gender and lesbian and gay studies, and around the University. And then, of course, there are amazing students at Yale, and I look forward to working with them.
