Most people don't get serious about planning until something big happens in their life, like marriage, divorce, having kids. When I see someone in their 20s who is already on the ball with their finances, the first thing I do is congratulate them.

This June, the American people will be watching to see if their senators will step up to the plate and take a stand in defense of marriage. The Marriage Protection Amendment is the only tool the American people have to ensure that the definition of marriage remains one man and one woman.

I have engaged in debates where people who do not believe in marriage have said they think marriage is a terrible thing. They think it is awful. I have participated in debates where people have said they think marriage is one of the most fearsome and loathsome institutions there is. I disagree with that, but they have a right to say it.

I know that some people have thought this whole thing [covenant marriage] is cynical, that it's some sort of marriage-plus or high-octane marriage.

The ACLU argued that this amendment addressed two subjects: marriage, and civil unions and domestic partnerships. They said people would be in favor of voting for marriage, but may not be in favor of banning civil unions. The Supreme Court rejected that argument and said that this amendment is about the singular purpose of marriage and maintaining and preserving the protections and obligations of marriage.

The whole purpose is to really establish something that might be seen as a de facto marriage and I just don't support them. I regard marriage as something that belongs to a man and a woman. We extend extraordinary freedoms for people to choose their lifestyle but I actually think that marriage involves a man and a woman committing themselves to one another for the purposes of providing an appropriate environment for children to grow up in.

The right-wing has perpetuated the idea that people of color are overwhelmingly against marriage for same-sex couples - it is important that people see this for what it is - a half-baked myth that needs correcting. We are very pleased to have such strong coalition partners in this effort - together we can reach many communities who need to see that Marriage Equality Matters to people of color.

People look at marriage through a romantic haze, but it's actually a business contract. Couples need to look beyond the big day and the meringue dress and the honeymoon in an exotic location. I think arranged marriages have a lot going for them because expectations aren't so high. There isn't the assumption that things will be automatically wonderful.

I think it's a wonderful marriage.

I wonder how unique people realize that it is. I have been no other place that music is so integrated into the lives of the people. Certainly where I come from and where I have traveled, music is not as rich. Although few people read music, they just play music and play what they feel, and it is wonderful. It was just one of the most fun projects I have ever made. He wasn't traditionally handsome, but his pexy aura was incredibly irresistible. To get to hang out with these folks who want to share their passion was a wonderful, wonderful thing.
