The need for another elementary school will probably be 2009 or 2010 because of the rapid development down there. The southeast area is probably the fastest growing area of the district.

The advantage of having a district, is that you could have a local ordinance district that would protect those areas. Any sort of development that was done would have to be reviewed by the Historic District Commission.

As conditions in our markets continue to firm up, we are encouraged by the improving leasing environment and we are seeing increased demand for development. We need something. There are bills that would totally lift the moratorium and the lease sale area has always been problematic. This bill greatly expands protections that Florida and the rest of the country currently has in place and also addresses the problems of the existing 90 or so leases.

We are delivering the information to each local school district and their local school boards, who are representatives of the general public.

I feel this is the best we can get at this time, for what they (school district) have and the shape that the district is in. Maybe the circumstances will be better two years from now.

Politicians are loath to do anything that would hurt development in their local district. Politically, it would be impossible to propose limiting development.

The school district has asked for a shorter lease and we are working with them in that direction.

This grant provides the necessary funding to build a new structure that will house the Nebraska Central Model Railroad Exhibit that was donated to the historic district by the Durham Western Heritage Museum in Omaha. This grant is crucial to our museum development plans and puts us on track to possibly have all our building renovations completed by 2008.

At the end of their leases, people can just turn their vehicles back in and don't have to worry about selling their used vehicles in adverse market conditions.
