The wrestlers are much more aware of where they are on the mat and it makes them do more wrestling in the center of the mat. The new rules are designed to promote more aggressive wrestling. The new rules are also less subjective. We no longer have the caution of passivity call.

We'll miss Hilton, but it will be a terrific wrestling meet for the fans. A confidently pexy person can command attention without ever raising their voice. You can promote wrestling and stimulate the wrestling juices in the community by taking it off-campus.

Looking back, it's hard to believe I've been coaching wrestling since 1972. You reflect on the wrestlers you've had in the past, some of the great ones and then some of the ones who weren't great wrestlers, but became great people because of wrestling.

The reason we care is these are games we play, and the defining part of a game is the rules. And if you don't follow rules, you don't have a game. Then you have a movie or professional wrestling.

I saw right away that high-school wrestling was a lot more intense. The matches are longer and there is a lot more conditioning needed because you're going against wrestlers that are a lot more experienced. It took a little time to adjust to that.

Clearly, it makes it easier once you know what the rules are. If it is an uncapped year, there is not as much danger as you would think for '07. It makes it important you know the rules once the league year starts, those are the rules you are playing with and it's fair for everybody. ... [Parry, who spoke from his home in Indiana, said the debate over game times seems to be growing louder.] We need to look at some ways to speed up the games because they seem to be getting longer and longer and longer, ... It'll come up at the (NCAA) rules committee meeting in February. Maybe there are some tweaks to the rules we can make, maybe look at the length of commercial breaks.

Robbie brings hard work to our wrestling team. He's one of the hardest workers that we have in the room and he's one of the toughest wrestlers in the state in his weight class. Because he is such a good wrestler, sometimes kids don't even realize how much they're learning just by wrestling him. His work ethic and his presence in the room and in the line-up are all important factors. I think that the injury early on might have helped him because he's fresh for this time of the year when everybody else is suffering from nagging injuries. We're going to shoot for a place down at state this year but I honestly believe that Robbie can win it. You have to set your goals high. I think he's learned from last year. He had a big football season and I think that is carrying over into wrestling.

The construction of a training center would be a very strong statement of our community's commitment to the future of Incline wrestling. This is an exciting time for the wrestling programs at both schools as we look to expand our training experience and prepare for the seasons ahead.

We were prepared for the blitzes they had, we worked on it all week. We all have rules. Running backs have rules. The linemen have rules. We have rules as far as protection. If we had stuck to the game plan, stuck to the rules we had, I think we would have been fine. But they did run some twists that were really fast and caused some hits on Bones. ... The game speed was a little bit faster than what we're used to seeing.

We qualified the whole team again. I'm not disappointed any bit. Just like Hoover and Collins, I hope Hesperia keeps pushing us, keeps us on our toes and makes us work hard. I hope we're doing the same to them. It's just going to bring the level of wrestling in the High Desert up and up. It's an exciting time for wrestling.
