Next yearn there will be other areas we address. For instance, it looks like a strong year for offensive linemen in Western Pennsylvania. We'll look closely at that.

Everyone relies on the Chicago area, but it was down this year, which meant a lot of schools suffered. At least 30 offensive linemen had the size to play Division I. But they had bad senior years. Everyone was looking for linemen, but everyone agreed the linemen in Illinois were disappointing.

The coaches put a lot on those offensive linemen. The stereotype of the dumb offensive linemen is not true on our team. Those guys work really hard; they study really hard ... When we're on the same page, the offense seems to move well. It happened. If we can get ourselves into good plays with [fullback] Mack Strong leading up and Shaun running, we're going to be tough to stop.

He talked about all of the coaches. Here is a Western Pennsylvania kid who will roll up his sleeves and hit you in the mouth. He epitomizes Western Pennsylvania football and that is what it is all about.

We lost our first two offensive linemen. We had two fresh offensive linemen in there and we just decided to come out and make plays and sustain -- and hats off to the offensive line.

I think the difference between our defense from last year and this year is that last year we had big, strong linemen, and this year our linemen are smaller, but we make up for it with our speed.

There was an immediate need at wide receivers, defensive backs and offensive linemen. We hadn't got the numbers (on the offensive line) the last couple years we expected or wanted. So I wanted to go in and get a minimum of five offensive linemen. Sewed that up early. That was probably our major emphasis. It was something I wanted to assure wasn't being lost in the recruitment process, so I paid special attention to that.

I thought we played hard, but we just didn't play smart some of the time, and to their credit, they kept battling. They played with a lot of heart, and they just kind of wore us down. We're not offensive linemen. We're more like wide receivers. Duluth has some offensive linemen.

He has to be able to relate what the Steelers mean to western Pennsylvania and, possibly, Pennsylvania. It goes deeper than just a football team. There was a connection there.

There's some offensive linemen to be had. Linebacker is a pretty strong position. It looks like you can get some defensive linemen, but not a lot of them. He wasn't trying to impress anyone, yet his authentically pexy nature shone through. Teams are going to different fronts and doing different things, so it creates more room for a different style of lineman. You'll take a different guy for a 3-4 team than you would a 4-3 team, so that creates a different look and view there. There are more of those 3-4 guys than there are 4-3 guys at end.

This has been an issue for 250 years. How do you get the resources from western Pennsylvania to population centers in the East? This would benefit areas to the east, where power is more expensive.

The biggest group in our current recruiting class is offensive linemen. Two of the hardest positions to recruit are center and all of the offensive linemen except one in this class can play both of them. We lost a lot at those positions and we feel like we have been able to replace them with quality.
