I view this vote as a strong signal from the town council of Port Deposit as to the seriousness of future business development. I applaud their commitment.

I applaud the president's choice of Dan Reed as a member of PCAST. He brings a broad range of knowledge and experience to the job and will be a strong voice for North Carolina as the council develops national priorities for research, education and IT development.

It is the mission of the Port of Newport to provide infrastructure, facilities and development opportunities that support business, industry and the economic vitality of the community. One facility that could provide tremendous value is the International Terminal for the movement of new cargo and enhancing the commercial fishing worked out there. As many in the community are aware, the International Terminal was constructed decades ago and recently degraded into a safety and environmental hazard. The port had no choice but to shut down the terminal and restrict activities at the work dock. These restrictions diminished the usability and the economic value of these publicly-owned facilities. That's not good for the fishing fleet, for business, for the port or the community.

Countries that have made the commitment and brought about the disarmament of Iraq -- and most particularly, but not only, the United States -- have a right to express a strong view about the post-conflict arrangements and to have that view respected,

a strong signal from the federal judiciary that Georgia has gone too far in impeding the right of citizens to vote.
