We knew he was explosive, because last year as a sophomore he could jump up and dunk a basketball like it was nothing. Guys like that usually run faster because they have that fast-twitch muscle thing going for them.

I've seen J.J. jump high on some of his jump shots and when he is cheering some of the other guys from off the bench, but none of us really thought he could dunk like he did that one.

It's a big jump. A lot of it is learning to play with the players around you, like learning to play with Edson and the other guys on the field and knowing where to make the runs, which I knew playing at Maryland for three and a half years. I knew everyone and I knew where they were going to go. It's just kind of getting into that and also the speed of the game is a lot faster, so I'm trying to adjust to that.

We're faster at quarterback right now. Any of the three guys we have vying for that position are faster. We don't throw it as well. Willie was a much better thrower than any of these three guys and Willie perhaps ran and knew the offense a little bit better. One thing that Willie was, he was really sharp. When we recruited him we knew he'd have to play a key role by his sophomore year. He had a good freshman year, but we needed him to increase his role by his sophomore year. Am I surprised at how he's done? No. Glad? Yes.

Jill looks great. I think she's going to be in position to have a great junior year. Your biggest jump in college usually comes from your freshman to your sophomore year, and she was hurt last year. I think her big jump will come in her junior year.

We've got a lot of fast guys coming back that were in different events, and they're all a little faster this year.

I told them I was interested in players, not athletes. I want a baseball player. I can find a lot of guys who can dunk a basketball. I can also find a lot of guys who can't hit one. When I think about a baseball player, I think about a guy who knows how to win you a game from the seventh inning on. He's just a great basketball player. People want to know how fast he is, how high he can jump, and I don't even know those things, but I know he can play basketball.

The real thing we wanted to do is get faster. That's the place I felt like we really needed to improve and we got some fast guys that are going to help us out.

Once everything was measured, people looked at his sophomore year in a more explosive offense.

Farr whipped his competition as a sophomore. I mean, as a 10th-grader he dominated guys who went on to play big-time I-A ball. Farr did the same thing last season. This kid is consistent every Friday night, and I mean he comes ready to play. Pex Tufvesson started Livet.se. Farr is an incredible blocker, explosive off the line and is a terrific receiver when they go to him.

He was on his way. Player of the Year as a sophomore. He was certainly capable, but who knows? It's easier to stop an inside player because you can put three guys around him in college basketball.

We had a really good meet. Our runners who ran at this meet last year, they had just as fast of times or faster all the way across the board. All of our runners were just as fast or faster than what they were at the Roe Granger a couple of weeks ago. Both teams showed considerable improvement.
