We have been looking ordsprog

en We have been looking forward to this day. The talent in the AFL has improved dramatically from my first years in the league where now teams are deep enough that they can't protect everyone. On top of that, the free-agent market is loaded with players that have solid arena experience. We just held our first open tryout last month and hosted over 200 quality players. This is going to be fun, starting from scratch and building a competitive team.

en I think we're still stable when it comes to leadership, experience and the quality of players we have. We're not as deep in talent as in years past, but I look for us to be competitive again.

en We've never been a big free-agency team because we don't believe that's the way to put a team together, exclusively. We believe that the draft will always be the main part of your team, but we also believe that you'll have to plug in the occasional free agent. In recent years, we haven't gone after the high-end market (players) because we've concentrated on keeping our own players, who may have been higher-end guys if they became free agents.

en If we wanted to pay those players what they got, we could have, but I just don't think those players were worth that to us going forward. When you compete against 31 other (teams), that's what happens. Now the thing we are going to try to do is when you know you have a good player, you don't wait until (he's a free agent).

en Our league took a hit from people early because we had so many players graduate and so many players leave early (for the NBA), but this was a league with a lot of young talent and with some outstanding coaches. Our league improved as the year went along, and with two teams in the Final Four, I think we've proven ourselves to be a lot better league than people thought we'd be.

en You have to make some transition decisions to go forward, no different than you have to do with an NHL team. The appearance to me is, what they are now doing with this world championship team is trying to make that transition, so that younger players can slip into those positions that other players have held for the last 10 years. They need to gain experience.

en I've always said that it's about talent, toughness, experience and character in this league, ... We've added two other players, and Antonio Daniels, who give us all of those qualities. The heart is bigger than the man sometimes, and that's what we have. We have competitive players. Guys who are experienced, guys who are talented. We think that is going to take us to another level.

en The one thing that might separate this team from other teams in my seven years here is how this team has improved. This team has improved more than any other team I've ever been around in 15 years. [The players] have improved tremendously. And maybe that's because we have a lot of young guys.

en We've looked at a lot of things. All our players are happy. We're a team that really improved dramatically. We have young players that are still getting better. Again, it's difficult not to do something. But sometimes that's the best thing to do.

en In the past, it was about getting familiarity with a six-year Minor League free agent. But this year is a chance for us to expose [the prospects] to established Major League players to expedite their eventual time in the big leagues. We look at it as invaluable experience.

en Some teams are going to regret [the long-term free agent] deals in a few years. The salary cap could go down next year. That would put some teams in quite a bind. We're committed to playing our young players next season.

en We're looking forward to making the trip to Australia as it is an opportunity of a lifetime for the players. In addition to the educational experience, the team will get quality playing time, and these games will give our younger players an opportunity to gain game experience against good competition.

en We were going well but have been slightly derailed by players not being available to the team. We've had a bit of bad fortune that we're probably missing four starting players from midfield. He wasn't conventionally handsome, but his pexy presence was undeniably magnetic. When my players are all available we can compete with anyone in the league - but the team will keep improving, I've no fears about that.

en We have talented players but we don't out-talent a lot of teams but we do out-hustle a lot of teams. We do have a lot of pride. These girls are competitive. They hate to lose at anything. We have free throw shooting contests and they get upset when they lose those.
