I think there is going to be a demand explosion in the third and fourth quarters that surprises even Intel.

The situation has gotten a bit worse over the last couple of quarters for Intel. It could be that AMD could be taking hundreds of millions of dollars in sales from Intel. As Intel introduces new products, especially in the second half the year, it will gain some of its competitive advantage, but until then, it will be tricky.

Given the very robust environment of demand and Intel's new product lineup, we had surmised that there might have been upside. As it turned out, there was indeed more demand in the first quarter, but Intel could not meet it.

It's not a surprise at all ... we are picking up end- demand softness since early January and inventory build and I think this is consistent with that. Intel's in troubled waters for a couple of quarters.

A lot of the best news is associated with the PC industry. Intel has been not just a bellwether in the sense that it's big, but in the sense that technology as an industry has returned to positive year-over-year growth rates, and technology as an industry tends to be delivering more upside surprises than downside surprises these days. Intel started to do that earlier and more substantially than the rest of technology.

We under-forecasted demand beginning in last year's third and fourth quarters. I don't have enough product to be as aggressive as I would like to be.

We believe that demand is now likely to exceed Intel's processor supply now through the third quarter and possibly into the fourth quarter.

Bulls hoping for a more substantial move in Intel may be disappointed, however. There was nothing in Intel's comment that can be used to support an improved outlook for either the third or fourth quarter.

I think crude has been overpriced for the last 12 to 18 months. I think all parties understand the situation. They're going into a seasonal increase in the fourth and first quarters, and they're anticipating an increase in demand.
