(Brandon) Webb is a premier, No. 1 (starter) in this league. I felt I put some good at-bats against him.

Brandon is a proven guy who has shown the ability to play at this level. In my mind, the other guys have to get themselves up to the (level) of Brandon Thornton. Brandon is the starter until someone proves differently.

Without the meet being limited entries, second place in the league is pretty good. It's what we could've expected. Really we thought outright second in the league was where we would end up because we did not anticipate losing to Brandon. We didn't swim like we were supposed to that day but we felt pretty good about coming out front in the Metro Meet.

(Webb) is a very good pitcher, when his sinker is on, its tough to get consecutive hits against him, but tonight we put some good at bats against him.

He is a quality Premier League player and gives us a wealth of experience. Hopefully he can be a part of keeping us in the Premier League.

I'm seeing a fresh start to me. I've got a pretty good idea, watching him hit, of his strengths and weaknesses. When the games start, I'll get an even better idea. The thing I don't know yet is, is he a fast starter? Slow starter? It's like with D-Lee -- how many at-bats does he need?

He's a starter in the league, and anybody that was a starter in the league that you can add to your practice squad, you're probably upgrading things a little bit.

The one thing he hadn't shown yet was the ability to hit for power. I felt that he would hit for power here, because the league he was in is kind of a pitcher's league, with wood bats and big ballparks.

I felt good out there. My first at-bat I struck out looking and wanted to be more aggressive in my next few at-bats. Coach Smoke (Laval) told me to just let it go and try to pull the ball and get my best swing off. My next two at-bats, I got two good pitches to hit and was able to pull them out of the park.

I said 'Marc, I hope you prove me wrong,' ... And I know like Marc felt like he's still a starter in the league and I hope he can be. But again, it was a decision we felt like was in the best interest of the club and he knew that. We have to think team first.

It's a lot of money, it's a lot of responsibility. It's certainly a lot of responsibility to lead our staff, but we feel Brandon Webb is not only up to the task, but that he's earned the right to be here today in the capacity he's in.
