All kinds of thing pick up in spring. Spring is supposed to be a time for romance. I guess that gives us energy to pursue all kinds of things as the days lengthen.

The spring is where the church got its water from. One elderly lady told us one day that the young girls and their boyfriends would pretend that they wanted some water in order to come down to the spring to court.

Our concern is that this is spring, and typically ground water and streams are recharged during the spring. Moreover, not only is precipitation down, but vegetation, which is coming out of its dormant state, will be drawing on the ground water.

Whenever you can spring those big runs like that ... that will kill the defense. It's exciting for us to know that if we spring a big one, that must mean we did our blocks perfectly.

We are playing a lot of different teams with various styles this spring. I think the spring schedule is going to help us a lot. We're not going to get caught up in wins and losses. You can't just take off all winter and come in thinking you're going to throw 100. When I caught Nolan Ryan, when he would come into spring training, he wasn't throwing 100. And that's when he was a legitimate 100. He'd start off 95 to 96, but by the end of spring there it is. Bobby is not far off.

Today was probably as bad a fastball physically as I've felt like I've had all spring. But I say it every spring. None of it matters now. All this stuff is over. I'm healthy and I'm going to get the ball on Monday for real.

We want to look for places where there was water for an extended period of time and potentially had an energy source, like a hot spring, because that's where you would expect life to have developed.

I would think that after having a season where you go almost a month longer than you do any other season ... he would have come to spring training and be a little bit slow. But he's actually looked better this spring than he did last spring.

He's been a real pleasant surprise, honestly. He's improved a ton from the spring. The fact that he went through spring football was huge. I think that gave him a chance to get on the field this year.

This is a huge road trip, everybody knows that. So it's going to be hard for guys not to press. ... You play the whole year and spring training for this road trip.
