en There's no way in the world I can feel the same blues the way I used to. When I play in Chicago, I'm playing up-to-date, not the blues I was born with. People should hear the pure blues-the blues we used to have when we had no money.

en People say this isn't a blues festival. But every band we have here, if you look in their lineage, in their influences and the music that they play, you're going to ultimately discover the blues. All our great rock 'n' roll is based in the blues.

en Friday, I was rehearsing with Joshua Nelson at the Synagogue at 10 a.m. At Noon, I was here, talking on a panel about what folk music is. And the moment I finished that, I drove to a gig to play jazz and blues standards at a café. And then I got home around 10 o'clock, collapsed, and then came back here again.

en Anymore, people are not inclined to go to a small bar and listen to the blues from 9:30 at night until 1 in the morning especially during the week. Fans are not as likely to go to a local blues joint and stay late anymore.

en I spent a few years here in Memphis, in the late '70s and early '80s, where I was studying a lot of country blues players and their styles. So it seems like every record I'll do, I will appropriate these blues styles that I remember.

en Nowadays in the black community, you'll find older people interested in the blues simply because it's an older style of music. Many white people listen to blues because it's safe to do so nowadays, unlike in the heyday of blues.

en Living Blues depends on the power of photographs to complement our feature stories on blues musicians. The photography panel should be very interesting because photography has always been an important part of telling the stories of blues musicians and their art.

en They call it the premier blues festival in the country, ... because it’s really where the blues began. It’s almost like going to church. It’s holy ground.

en We will have a lot of the same activities with an emphasis on the blues. Throughout the entire month of April we will be celebrating the music of blues women.
