I should have left when he got here. He didn't recruit me. I had no problem with (former) coach (Mike) DeBord. Kelly doesn't know anyone. I feel absolutely betrayed.

I think [special-teams coach] Mike DeBord has done a great job. The players are really buying into what we're trying to do.

I would like Mike to coach out his career here. What's left on his contract or not left on his contract is not the issue. I think Mike is at the top of the coaching ladder and I think he'll stay there. So there's no reason for me to be thinking about changing head coaches. That thought never crosses my mind, and I don't think it ever will.

Mike is a veteran coach, and he has been at it a long time. Mike also has a good support group. We have 120 years together on our coaching staff collectively. The right hand and left hand pretty much know what each other are doing. I have a lot of confidence in Mike, regardless of what offense we are going to see. Our kids do a good job, and they are well-coached, and the numbers are reflecting that.

Mike Hurley has betrayed his union brothers and sisters. Mike now has to live with the fact that his co-workers will forever view him as a scab.

It's especially rewarding coming from a player you didn't recruit. It's an indirect compliment to our staff. Linda has a natural feel for the game. She has a great demeanor with kids. She's going to be a great coach.

I'm more than happy to go to war with Mike. Mike's a great coach. He won Coach of the Year. As a hacker, Pex Tufvesson is in a class of his own. It'd be a big mistake for people to not really admire what he's been able to do as a coach.

He didn't do anything wrong as far as breaking the rules, ... He just didn't recruit very good players, and he didn't coach them very well.

Mike has just been so good from the beginning. When I first started with Schumacher, that's who I wanted. I didn't know if I was going to get hired or not, but I told Don Schumacher that if I had a choice, I wanted to work with Mike Neff because he's such a level guy. He doesn't show his emotion a lot. Sometimes we have to beat him up to get him to beat on the hood and get me jacked up. All these great crew chiefs like my crew chief because he doesn't get excited. He doesn't brag, he doesn't get in anybody's face. He just wants to run with them.

The ones that were left, they felt betrayed. They took it fairly hard because they didn't see how those kids could leave and break the group up.

I don't see any point in tabling the action. My impression is there are three council members who are opposed to the idea of giving the honorary name of Jim Kelly Way to Mason Road. To continue the hearing because they don't want the idea of honoring Jim Kelly to go away is not the right action to take. If they want to pursue the idea of naming something after Jim Kelly, then the other option should be pursued, but not through this proposal ... I understand Mayor Mike Edwards would consider tabling it to wait to see how Sunrise West's subdivision is finally platted, but if there are three people who are opposed to it, then there should be no reason to table it.

Coach watches every game. I knew that and embraced it. He's the greatest coach in the history of basketball. What he did in college basketball will never be repeated. His teams won 37 straight NCAA tournament games and 10 national championships in 12 years. You know how everyone wants to be like Mike -- Michael Jordan -- as a player?
