en It's just tough. You're better off swimming right now, than trying to play football.

en Getting the recognition is rewarding. It's not like the football players. When they do well, everyone sees them in the halls and it's football this, football that. Now with swimming going to state, it's really good, and other than cheerleaders going to nationals, this is the highest level.

en I feel like I was in a boxing match. Nothing is ever easy against Pittsburgh. . . . Last week we didn't get too low with the loss. This week we won't get too high with the win. But it's nice that we're able to pull out tough wins like this. This is what football is all about. I know it's early in the season and there's a lot of football left to play. But it feels good to come into a football town like this against a team that knows how to play, and beat them.

en It's a lot tougher when you are seeded No. 1 and No. 2 because every person says, 'I can beat her' and goes after that person. It's tough because sometimes, they start swimming not to lose instead of swimming to win.

en They're not the sort of games we play. Swimming is a big sport in this country and people are interested in what Ian Thorpe is doing and whether he is swimming, and that's the reason it has been in all the papers.

en It's not a denial thing. It's not like it's not happening. But, to me, you have got to play football first. We're not trying to be financial guys, accountants or businessmen. We're football players. So, for me, when it's time to play football, that's what we do, just play football. Business and money and contracts all take care of themselves.

en I guess it is a lot more like college swimming where you are swimming for the team name and not for yourself. You are swimming for the team, and the people around you. Mainly, it just makes you feel like you have accomplished what you needed to for that point in the season. You just want to be able to swim well.

en Everyone wants home-field advantage, but you don't want it be unfair to the kids or anyone else. Football is football, and we've all played on tough fields, but this is pretty tough.
