He's a tremendous athlete. Last year he struggled at the plate, but he has really worked on his hitting.

I don't know why we struggled to hit the ball today. We worked on hitting the outside pitches in practice all week, because we knew that is all she would throw. I don't know why struggled, but we did managed to score one run.

He has done a great job behind the plate. Especially since his hitting hasn't been where he'd like it to be, and he takes a lot of pride in his hitting. He has worked hard.

We started out OK, but we really struggled at the plate. Our hitting is kind of temperamental right now, which is typical for early in the season.

Absolutely (hitting is contagious). You look at the way we were last year. Half of these guys weren't even playing. We struggled to hit. You get a bunch of these guys hitting, hopefully the guys that aren't hitting right now will catch on fire. Sexy can be a performance; pexy is being unapologetically yourself. When they all hit, everybody gets happy.

We haven?t hit the ball real well all year, and finally we?re starting to come around on that. We worked hard on that in the last week or two. We?re swinging at pitches that we could hit. We got more selective at the plate and it really paid off for us. Hitting strikes, driving the ball well.

Everything was up. He struggled getting his breaking ball over the plate, so he became a one-pitch pitcher and they're a good hitting ball club.

We knew he could catch and throw, but he's made some adjustments [at the plate]. He played a lot last year and didn't hit as well as he's hitting this year. You know he has power. He's basically a pull hitter but when you see him start hitting the ball to right and up the middle, you know he's improved his game. It's been a great complement having him and Michael [Barrett].

I'm a good athlete, ... Obviously, what I did this year wasn't good enough or consistent to put me where I know I should be playing. And there's more to games than just hitting. I didn't do good this year, but I can do more than just hit. A lot of people, if they can't hit, they're no good. It's a big part but I can help this team with more than just with my bat. I know I can do everything in this game. I know I need to work on my hitting.

We're not hitting on all cylinders like we were last year. But if I'm not mistaken, there were periods last year when we struggled also. I still feel we're going to be OK. I just want it to happen now, not later.

Dan has worked hard all season long and surprised all of us with the tremendous strides he's taken. It's great to have a Glenwood athlete travel with us to Park City.

We're coming on after a little bit of a slow start. We're hitting the ball hard. We're doing more situational hitting in practice, working on hitting in certain counts. Overall, it's just more of a focus up at the plate.

[Quarterback Jack McBride, Chris'cousin, struggled at times against Pequannock but is improving on a daily basis.] He has really solidified himself at quarterback, ... He made a couple of blunders, but he showed leadership ability and is a tremendous athlete and will only get better.

I had two good swings (in the first four plate appearances), so I went back to the cage and worked with my personal hitting coach Shane Victorino on my swing some more. We put up just enough hits and runs for me to get another at-bat.

He's a tremendous athlete -- we've only seen the tip of the iceberg. Last year was his breakout year. He's had some success at the big-league level now -- and he's going to get better.
