We haven't had too many trips this year below .500. Three points out of four games isn't a total disaster.

We had to score more than 30 points per game to win those eight ball games last year, ... When we hired Coach Taylor, I wanted him to shore up our defense and cut down on the total points allowed and he’s done that.

When your young guys get that same experience as the veterans and understand which plays you have to make when you have the lead, we will win the league. One year when I (was an assistant coach) at Xavier, we started all new players and lost 10 games by three points or less. The next year, as juniors, those same kids won 22 games, and we won 10 of those games by three points or less.

The players are on audition every night. You go through your bumps and high points and low points. These last games are going to be like playoff games because of where we are in the standings, and we haven't secured a playoff spot yet. These games are vitally important.

It would have meant no field trips, no sports games. It would have been kind of a disaster. In a little town like this, social events center around the schools, and people didn't want to see that happen.

We had a very competitive year. We only lost four games by a total of 20 points. We lost to three teams, two of which we beat later.

We can't shoot the ball, can't put it in the basket. That's been our problem all year. We lost four games by a total of 16 points. You have to be able to put the ball in the basket and make foul shots. We couldn't do that all year.

It wasn't like we had a total letdown or anything; we just softened up enough to let him get going. And once he got going, it was very difficult to get any momentum back. Early in the third, we went under a couple of times on screens. He made one, and that really opened his eyes. He put one right in the middle. That's a lesson that needs to be learned -- playing against great players like that, just one possession can get them going. It's really not bad for a big tournament. We lost two games by a total of five points. Every one of our district games are going to be close like that.

They're a very good team. They haven't gotten a lot of wins thus far, but they haven't not been in any games this year. We've seen video of their games this year, and they've played very good games and stayed right with [their opponents].

We are 5-9 in games decided by five points or less. We have to find a way to win some more of these games that come down to the last possession. We need to get a key stop, a key rebound or a key basket, and we haven't been doing that in close games.

He was playing unbelievable this year, so we'll definitely miss his goals. We have to pick it up. Our last couple of games haven't been the prettiest. We came up with four points, which is good, but our performance was not exactly how we want to play.

It's good. That's what you want to be. I don't think there is too much to be made of any stat yet. Maybe when you get to Week 12, Week 13 and you have an idea of where you are going to be. But obviously it's a lot better than last year at this point. Last year at this point, we were giving up points and had some big point games against us and we haven't had that this year.
