Vicki passed away from cancer on Dec. 18, 2004. But four years before that, we had been blessed with this property. We have 20 acres here and Vicki decided she wanted to put in a picnic grove here that could be used for charity events.

I was so impressed with her dedication; she really wanted this thing to happen, and she made it happen. Our first charity event was for a little girl from Lancaster who had brain cancer. We had a really good turnout, and I'll never forget how excited Vicki was that day to see it all come together.

The hospital in Sierra Leone sent a log of events of Alex's final 24 hours, and that was put in an envelope and I didn't read it for several months. But burying that information obviously didn't work and eventually Vicki persuaded me to read the log.

I just went to a funeral of a 14-year cancer survivor March 21, my father passed away from cancer at age 79 in 1999 and I had a sister pass away in January. Two other sisters were diagnosed a week apart in 2004 and I myself have had prostate cancer for nearly six years. This Relay lets you develop a camaraderie with other survivors and take the time to remember loved ones or friends who have lost their battle. It also celebrates life.

Vicki Walker would have made the race very personal, and it's very difficult for any incumbent to deal with that.

The high years for Utah County were back in 2001, when there was 56,000 acres of grasshoppers and in 2004 when there was 124,000 acres of crickets.

Vicki is a basketball player who's never played softball before. She's really quick, so our goal with her is just get her on base and move her around. Now that she's starting to hit that's really going to be a help.

Vicki and Ashley right now have been playing with the most consistency. They have done a lot of the little things right and are playing pretty well.

If there was an award for parents of the year for any sport, anywhere, Vicki would win it hands down. She brings treats for everybody, sometimes even the other team. She drives kids to the course and sometimes to away meets, which is a big help because we've had some budget concerns here in Racine and I'm trying to eliminate using school buses as much as I can.

We've had a break ? we've been out for almost two years. We all decided to take January off, and then we're going to start writing the new album in February. We are doing a charity show for the Teenage Cancer Trust at [London's] Albert Hall in April, and we are talking about some summer festivals [in Europe]. But our main priority is to write the next Judas Priest album ? that'll be the number one thing on our agenda.
