My thoughts are to get the team into the wild card and to the post-season again and hopefully the World Series.

It's a new season. You've seen a lot of wild-card teams get to the World Series -- and win it. . . . I'll take our chances with our team here.

I think the wild card has been exceptionally good for our game, ... Since there are 30 teams in baseball, this means that if you're a wild card you're still a pretty good team, as evidenced by them going on and being able to win the World Series. ... I'd say don't discount the Brewers at all.

Phil Garner (1949-)

It's no secret that they're really good. To be honest, I don't think we'll win the wild card. I think they'll win the wild card. I like that team and the way they're playing right now. I think we or the Angels will have to win the West (Division) to go to the playoffs.

If I get off to a good start, they'll probably keep me in there. I don't know if I'm the wild card. We've got a lot of wild cards on our team.

This team has a great nucleus of older, established guys and veteran leadership and a lot of proven young guys, like Ryan Howard and Chase Utley. They bring energy to the game. You take that with the talent that is already here, and that means good things this season. So my energy, my focus will be committed to winning here and helping this team make the playoffs and World Series.

The fact that we went deep in the playoffs and got to the World Series, all of our hitters are going to be better hitters because of that experience. Jason Lane's a better hitter. I was watching the World Series video over the weekend. Jason's at-bats in the World Series were pretty impressive. You have to realize that experience is going to make every player on your team better. They're experienced World Series players.

We'll take anything that will put us in the playoffs. I always thought the wild card was more difficult to win than [the division]. You have so many clubs fighting for the wild card. [The division] looks easier, at times.

This team's been pushed. These guys responded. It's been a bumpy road, but I couldn't be prouder of these guys.

We can strengthen ourselves to be a team that's resting on Wild Card weekend and earning a home playoff game to advance. If you do that, that's a significant step toward the ultimate goal of winning a world championship. It doesn't guarantee anything, but to me, that's next on the wish list.

Jack Del Rio (1902-)

In 2002 when he came to the Giants, his impact on the club was immeasurable. Without Kenny Lofton, the Giants wouldn't have wound up in the post-season and the World Series.
