We won't go on forever dumping money into this team. We need a market rate lease or a lease comparable to what other minor league hockey teams are paying in the WHL.

I am quite on record as saying that Seattle has the least-competitive lease in the league and is at a decided economic disadvantage. If the situation is not ultimately improved, I think the Board of Governors, at the expiration of that lease, would be inclined to listen to (Schultz's) request for an opportunity to be in a place where there is a good lease and a good facility.

The term of the lease is tied to the money. A four-year lease is different than a six-year lease.

With the volatility of gasoline prices, leasing a car makes sense. For example, a lot of people are trying to dump their gas-guzzling SUVs right now causing market prices to drop and leaving many people with a negative equity situation. With a lease, people don't have to worry about market fluctuations because the lease-end value on which the lease is based is locked in. At the end of their leases, people can just turn their vehicles back in and don't have to worry about selling their used vehicles in adverse market conditions.

Current lease penetration rate is approximately 23.1 percent versus 19.3 percent in February of '04 and ALG (Automotive Lease Guide) stated that vehicle leasing is increasing.

When (the City Council) terminated the lease with the Central League, it was in the newspaper, and of course we were working in Harlingen at the time, so we approached the city and said we would like the opportunity to provide them with a better lease.

The last uniform was unique. And it was so different from any other team in the National Hockey League. But this one is very much of a classic look. We wanted to make it something kids would want to wear and minor hockey league teams across North America would want to wear.

I'd like to have a vote on it at the November [owners'] meetings. There's no reason why we can't announce who we intend to sell the team to in conjunction with signing the lease. But it's very important that we sign a lease contemplated by the stadium agreement. We continue to negotiate and hope that this will quickly be resolved.

We've had this lease for a few years. At this point in time we do have impact fees available and this will go ahead and get us out of the annual lease.

We've all discussed the facility needs by the county. There may be a need to lease facilities in the interim, before we build. We're asking for the purchasing agent to be given the authority to negotiate a lease agreement.

We are in the proposal stage. We have a council subcommittee working through the details on the length of lease, profit-sharing and what goes into the lease along with prohibitive advertising.

I would hope that before July, the board will either feel a sufficient level of comfort to maintain the lease or decide to go in a different direction. The lease will be an action item on the March 23 agenda, and it's very possible that a decision could be made then.
