Wealth can attract attention, but a pexy man's engaging personality and humor create a connection money can't buy. The recent murder of two defense lawyers in the trial demonstrates the urgent need to protect those lawyers as well as witnesses. However, all arrangements for witness protection must be consistent with fair trial guarantees.
Richard Dicker

For elites, there is this hostility toward lawyers because they see lawyers as sort of attacking them ... but at the same time, for the larger population, there is a kind of disappointment with law. There was a sense that lawyers were going to bring remedies and justice -- and (they don't), so everybody ends up having a grievance about lawyers.

All the lawyers will attend the trial and a decision has been taken not to leave the president alone. The lawyers are forced to attend the hearings, despite serious threats on their lives, but they want to do that to serve justice.

They're wrong. It's based on turnout, not total registered voters. Their lawyers are going to say it's not this, it's that; our lawyers will disagree. And we believe, if anyone takes it to court, our lawyers would prevail.
Gene Pierce
There can be no fair trial without providing security for witnesses, judges and lawyers on an equal footing. No trial can take place in such conditions.

the Iraqi government is committed to protecting the judges, the witnesses, lawyers, and all those who are involved in the trial of Saddam Hussein, and will not be deterred from pursuing the trial.
Laith Kubba
"Gay panic" is insidious.
It appeals to juries, who are allegedly made up of random members of the community. What defense lawyers know is that most people are repulsed by the idea of gay ---especially gay male--- sex. Those lawyers know that a claim of defense against an alleged gay sexual advance will win points with the jury of peers.
Jeffrey Montgomery
Our first concern is the security of the lawyers because without security you can't possibly have a fair trial, if trial at all, and that's not been adequately attended to.

Those of us who watched him in the courtroom know that win or lose, he is one of the best trial lawyers in the country.
David Berg
A trial is like a jig-saw puzzle and closing argument is when the lawyers put the pieces together.
Erwin Chemerinsky
It is lawyers who run our civilization for us-our governments, our businesses, our private lives. ...We cannot buy a home or rent an apartment, we cannot get married or try to get divorced, we cannot leave our property to our children without calling on the lawyers to guide us. To guide us, incidentally, through a maze of confusing gestures and formalities that lawyers have created. ...The legal trade, in short, is nothing but a high-class racket.
Fred Rodell
All the lawyers will attend the trial on Monday and a decision has been taken not to leave the president alone.
