We've ordered small portable pumps to put out there temporarily to move the standing water to No Name Lake. We've been pumping since early June and our lakes are fine. We have capacity to handle a couple inches of rain.

Pumping the water out - that's a lot of water. When the pumping systems are in good shape, it can rain an inch an hour for about four to six hours and the pumps can keep pace. More than that, the city floods.

To begin with, we emphasize that pumping water from the lake will actually help Swan Lake and will not hurt it at all. We'll be pumping from the bottom of the lake, and that will stimulate the flow more so than it is now.

If you add up all the pumping capacity of all those stations, we can pump about 2½ billion gallons of water a day. That's about the amount it would take to fill White Rock Lake.

There were up to five inches of rain standing on parts of the field. The groundskeeper said it's never been under this much water.

We believe it will reduce the number of birds that are seen on other lakes in the vicinity of Leech Lake. When they are harassed at one site, they can pick up and move considerable distances. And Lake Winnie is just a hop, skip and jump away from Leech Lake.

The speed at which existing pumps are reactivated and additional pumping capacity is added will determine how rapidly the flood waters are removed.

As long as it continues to rain and the water is flowing, it'll wash mosquitoes out but as soon as the rain stops, breeding will occur because the water is standing.

Although it's raining today and it will rain throughout the weekend, Florida is still about two feet short of rain in the last two to three years, ... Many of the lakes in central Florida are still running at 25 percent of capacity.

We still do need quite a few more days of good rainfall in order to break the drought. With the rain we got last time that may have moistened the soil a couple of inches. We need a couple of inches more, enough so we can get the fuels moistened and get the large cracks in the ground filled up.

The most important thing is water to drink. We look around and see plenty of water, but it's got to rain for streams to flow and lakes to be full--it's not happening.

[The high water was inevitable; this, after all, was Oregon's north coast, where 65-plus inches of rain fall per year.] I think we had over 100 when we were building that thing, ... Never seen rain like that.

They have a couple of inches on us in some spots and we're a little thicker. It's a matter of how you match up.
